You have to wonder about both decisions.

In the history of rugby league, what 1 NRL game rookie replacing your Captain with over 200 NRL games who influenced results, actually improved the side?

What team, who had one genuine starting Front Rower, has let that player go and not replaced them, and the side has actually improved?

Over what period? Are we looking for the sugar hit of upsetting Dogs or Manly, or are we looking longer term?
I think it was highly unlikely Gutho or RCG were going to be involved in a premiership win with us. At the moment Iongi, Tuivati, et al are Schrödinger’s NRL 17. Granted each game also seems to take their premiership chances closer to 0, but I’d argue it’s still higher than Gutho or RCG had they not left
