Interesting signing… I understand the state of the cap with the new franchises coming in have blown it out a bit but $650k (ave) over 4.5 years does seem overs for a 20yo kid.

It’s a big investment in terms of both time and dollars. They are obviously convinced that TDS is the style of player we need.

I thought no doubt he would be at Manly where he would likely walk into the 9 jersey, so that’s a victory for the recruitment team to convince the kid we are the right club for him.

I like the thought of a Ryley/TDS combo in terms of their play styles complementing one another. They are still both young and developing though,TDS has struggled with the physical demands of first grade so far, I just hope he grows into those Eyebrows.

I would say this signing will mean Coinakis will more than likely look for a new club with better long term opportunities.
Every time we sign a player it runs rhe risk of pushing juniors out.

I haven't seen coinakis play he might be a gun or could be a dud.

Our track record with juniors doesn't give me confidence atm. And that's not writing off him or any others of our current crop.

I just want to see it transfer to NRL over a period of time where you see 3 or 4 make it and turn into quality first graders.

Like no club has talk up there juniors for a decade and delivered barely anything like Parramatta.

Will Penisini and Dylan Brown would be the best of the bunch in the past 10 years.

Unfortunately both are playing well below there potential atm.

TDS is only 1 year older then coinakis who isn't even getting a run in flegg. Not a good sign.

He is a long way from being in NRL contention, if at all. Best chance is if Smith is too expensive in a few years when we try to re-sign him, and coinakis becomes our back up. But will he be that good?

Coinakis is very small. Matt Arthur clone without dad’s footy shorts.

Who’s saying we aren’t overpaying him??

We couldn’t attract flies atm, of course we have to over pay to get talent here. But he has massive upside and it’s up to Ryles and his staff to get the best out of him.

You are just pissed because he’s not an utter plodder, because we all know that’s what gets you wet around the wee wee. You miss us signing blokes like Harper, Davey and Lussick.
I said I’m excited about this signing. I never said I was excited about those others. But every team is made up mostly of unexciting signings. This isn’t the UEFA Champions League, it’s the NRL, and the salary cap limits the number of players who can get TDS type money.

I'd have Sean Russell in ahead of Penisini right now. At least Rusty is heading in the right direction, namely improving in his position.
I think our club needs to identify who the best jnr development lower grade coaches (they would obviously be from Penrith, Melbourne, Roosters) are in the NRL and go out and buy them.

TDS reminds me of a young Robbie Farah. There is a reason he is on the nose at the Tigers and it’s not about his footballing ability. I think it will eventually come out.
Bing bing bing....winner winner chicken dinner.

Big but.....he might thrive at Parra. Ill be clear here, he is a very good player and you guys got a very good player and I think he will go well at Parra. Good get.

I respect your intellectual honesty. A lot of fans of clubs would sh*t on a player and say they’re no good if they left their club. I saw Parra fans saying Da Silva sucks when they thought he’d signed with Manly.

Was it the Parra game where we saw the defense deliberately giving up scrum penalties (near try line) by not packing in time OR by blatantly breaking the scrum early rather than allow the scrum play (to the frustration of the ref)?
Is this rampant in the league?
What do we glean from this?
Should it not be a catalyst for a wider conversation about coaches and rules?

Ideally it’ll mean Riley can do more of what he’s good at (kick chase, being a pest, making a bazillion tackles) and TDS same (getting out of dummy half, run pressure, put on a big hit)
TDS didnt leave a job sharing Contract at the Tigers for another one at Parra. This was his major issue at the Tigers. IMO this signing will spell the end of Riley at your club at the end of 26.
