We are paying him good money to take up a top 30 spot and development to let him go after a season...

This on the surface seems like spending money on the cap for the sake of spending money.

The more I think about it the more annoyed I am that the club would do this. The fact he wouldn’t sign long-term with us just shows he doesn’t have faith in Ryles and the club and its direction. we can surely offer more money than the Broncos who are packed full of stars. So he is going to the Broncos because he sees them as a more viable option to be successful in which case why do we sign him at all? He’s coming to us purely because we’re offering money for one year.

Only first reaction from me but I don’t like it. So it helps us for 2026 then back to the drawing board for 27? To me it feels like we are just giving away a yes as it’s not like we’ll challenge for a premiership. And I’m even if we do well, he’s gone in 27.

Assuming the master plan revolves around our #6 options in house?

Mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand we can’t go into next year with our current stocks, we’re just wasting another season.
On the other, doesn’t do much for long term combos.
They must really rate one of the youngsters or have a big name lined up for 2027.
regardless, we really shot ourselves in the foot with the Brown PO. We didn’t have clarity on whether he was staying or going until all the decent options were signed

That's why it makes no sense but Ryles also is part of the recruitment process.

If the club rates Lorenzo play Joash at 5/8 next year and then filter Lorenzo into the side during the season..

Exactly. If 100% of the football public think it’s a bad idea, then Ryles knows that too. This a is either a complete beat up for engagement ( successful already ) or something else is happening. And if it’s neither and it turns out right, it’s unforgivable.

They don’t even need to be coming through our system. In just over a week there’ll be a lot more halves than Pezet available for 2027. We might only need him for 2026.

I don't blame Ryles. He has walked into a shit storm. Has had to remove POs and old men on 4yr deals. He is stuck with Matto and Tago for 26 so very close to a million of cap gone. He needs to make 8 or get close to avoid coming under fire.
Whilst he is building us for the long term he needs to try and get some quality to be able to make us competive.

I’m with the consensus, I hate this….

I don’t mind the idea of a loan player if it’s a fringe outside back or forward for depth for a season to help out but not for a spine player, this makes zero sense.

We are just going to be in the exact same position in 12 months time.
