I didn’t either. I balked but then I looked into salary cap and if consider Jnr and RCG signed 800k contracts when the cap was 9.6 mill and it will be 12.6mill by start of 2028. 800k is the same percentage of the cap as 1.05mill
I also reckon the higher cap means the top tier players will get thrown higher increases whilst the min wage goes from like 135 - 150k so not a huge jump
It's a valid point, and I totally respect the opinion that he is worth that money.
I am looking at it from the point of view that spending that sort of money on a player may cost us a player such as Ryda Talagi, or Sam Tuivati.
Now, it's true that Ryda, and Sam, are somewhat unproven - but they have been developed by the club, and they are our future.
From a "bang-for-your-buck" perspective, they offer better value, because if they can perform 75% of what Keon does, at 25% of the price, we are sitting pretty.
I rate Keon, and think he's a stud.
I just think we need to evaluate big-money signings on terms of our future.
I'd hate to lose them, just to sign the short-term high of securing a high-profile forward.
