But but but I thought the 3rd party deals had nothing to do with the clubs?

Am I missing something?

Or do these 'journalists' just make shit up to suit their agenda?

They will definitely move on to other clubs. They won't be happy until they have milked this whole story as hard as John Grant does prior to creaming his pants.

Avenger, have to say at your point about the club appointing Richardson to the CEO role was probably crucial in all the problems, can't see him allowing this to fester

Also Sharp wanted to appoint Brian Smith to football manager, but was forced to appoint to DA to get BA accepted as coach over JT ,what a clusterf**k

Coz the ref testified that it was largely him (i.e. the ref) moving towards the player.

I caught a couple of minutes of the Super League the other day. One of the props patted the ref on the bum about 6 times after being penalised.

Why doesn't the player chase his manager for the TPA because apparently they organise them all....

I reckon that is what happens and then the manager leaks it to the media. This then puts pressure on the club making the club look incompetent (in the eyes of the media and the uninformed punter)due to players not being paid.

The hypocrisy is that the Telecrap can run a story on the "scandal" that we are guaranteeing TPAs, then the next day suggest that Manu will walk because we can't ensure that he gets paid.

Round and round we go ....

Not the first time a player gets disgruntled at a club because of failed tpa payments. If the NRL can't see the writing on the wall, then they are more incompetent then we think.

The whole system needs an overhaul as its obvious the eels weren't or aren't the only club breaching the cap.

If the actions of his Mau's manager are accurate then this really should highlight to the NRL the TPAs are not working.

But what is the alternative?

We can't legally stop players earning money elsewhere. Everyone recognises that the current system isn't great, but I don't see too many suggestions of workable (and legal) alternatives. About the only thing that would fix this particular problem would be a massive increase in the salary cap, or abandoning the cap completely (which would cause problems of their own).

Well what is this theoretical cap actually achieving now?

Increasing the cap by a mill or two is a far better option, while scrapping Tpa's altogether.

One city teams are continually receiving a leg up. How can a team like the Tigers or eels continually compete with the storm and Broncs on a yearly basis?

The weaker teams have a small window of opportunity (2/3 years) every decade to compete with the best and a chance of premiership glory. While the strongest teams are there week in week out, year in year out.

Let's try and put everyone on a level playing field, so it reduces the temptations of the weaker clubs pushing the boundaries.

Why can't the NRL organize and facilitate the TPAs? Player X signs with club Y, then, based on his market worth, potential sponsors can pay Player X whatever they want on top. If a club gets involved in any way it is a breach of the salary cap.

This way the truly marketable players can get their worth, with all clubs having a fairer chance to land good players. It would stop the type of situation Delboy alluded to with Tupou.
