FORMER TIGER’S GLOWING ENDORSEMENT FOR BATEMAN
Wests Tigers forward John Bateman could be only days away from a move to South Sydney – and he will land at the Rabbitohs with a glowing reference from former teammate Isaiah Papali’i.
Bateman has two years remaining on his deal with the Tigers but it seems increasingly likely that he will instead be reunited with his former England coach Wayne Bennett at the Rabbitohs next season as they look to spend the money they saved when Lachlan Ilias moved to St George Illawarra.
Papali’i and Bateman spent two years playing alongside each other at the Tigers before Papali’i moved to Penrith in the off-season. Now Bateman looks set to exit the Tigers as well as the club shakes up its roster ahead of the 2025 season.
Papali’i just hopes his ex-teammate and his former club can arrive at an agreement that is best for both of them.
“He is passionate about winning and what he believes in,” Papali’i said.
“I guess that gets misunderstood sometimes. You veen see him on the field sometimes and he is fiery, but it comes from a good place and he just wants to win.
“Hopefully they figure out what is best for both of them.”

This sounds more and more likely to happen.

From the Tele:-

The Wests Tigers’ bid to retain Lachlan Galvin on a long-term deal could be given a helping hand as English forward John Bateman edges towards the exit door.

Galvin has another two years remaining on his contract with the Tigers but the club is intent on extending his deal in a bid to ensure he doesn’t head on the open market, where he would command plenty of attention from the Tigers’ rivals.

Batman’s future could have an impact on those plans.

The English international looks set to join South Sydney, where he would be reunited with his former England coach Wayne Bennett.

That would free up a significant amount of money for the Tigers, which they could then use to help extend the contract of Galvin, who is with the club until the end of 2026.

Galvin was one of the shining lights for the Tigers last season, only suspension preventing him winning the Dally M rookie of the year award.

He has upped the ante this pre-season, smashing his own records in fitness testing in a sign that he is not resting on his laurels.

The arrival of Jarome Luai shapes as the other big lever the Tigers will pull in their bid to retain Galvin given the pair have the potential to form one of the most potent halves combinations in the NRL.

Luai has signed a long-term deal with the Tigers although he has the ability to leave after the 2026 season, the same time Galvin comes off contract.

The Tigers will do everything in their power to convince the pair to stay well into the future as they look to build the club around a pair of playmakers capable to stacking up against any in the competition.

I think the maccas will eventually fill this young fella out and I've got a hunch he's destined for that link role.
He's still young so that won't be for a long time. I'd love to see the lad be a one club man, change the trend of these nowadays crappy contracts.

Juan Soto signs richest contract in sports history in 15-year, $1.2bn deal

———————-
Makes our contracts look like chump change hahaha
If my maths is correct, that’s $80m/ yr.
He could buy the NRL.

It's insane. After you posted that I wondered who is the richest......check this dude out, wow!

Faiq Bolkiah has a net worth of $20 billion in 2024, making him the richest football player in the world.

Bolkiah is a member of Brunei's royal family, as he’s the son of Brunei's Prince Jefri Bolkiah and his uncle, Hassanal Bolkiah, is the Sultan of an oil-rich kingdom.

The top players have been gifted in one way or another so it makes our TPA's look measly :)
