Yep he’s a pet member, no I didn’t set this up.

A major sponsor appears -which is good news.

Chomp on that Lee

We should improve, but we still aren’t playing with the cards we want.

11th.

It’s good that Pole is giving our new side a go against fierce competition for his signature. At least we aren’t tweaking and toying about for a change.

It’s the side we have to have. A lot still hangs on our depth.

In the modern game:

My depth theory is to expect an “average” of about a third of the top 17 to be unavailable spread across the season due to suspensions or injury.

I was going to ask @Vic Mackey and leave it open to the panel here if anyone thinks that’s about right?

We do have some some very exciting and accomplished players arriving, how they gel should be fascinating. It’s important they click asap. We can’t suddenly find our mojo at round 14 with 3 stars out.

We all remember when Tim went from 3 rounds to click to 3 seasons. Those first 5 rounds were incredibly frustrating. Had we stayed the course, something may have happened but we fell away badly instead. Very empty feeling that season.

Hence why I think we should take trials seriously to get the team playing on the same page.
By Rd 1, they need to be "contact" fit too to avoid injury.
How can you expect a new team to gel straight away by not doing it.

I understand your point, but would we be happy if Luai got a season ending injury in a game that means nothing?

Senior players are senior for a reason, they’ve played for a while and know what is required of them.

There’s an old saying, “it’s only a trial, if you lose”.

While we are working on our attack, don’t forget we are also working on our defence, your spot in the team may be on the line if you’re not doing the work.

I believe Bennett is not a believer in the advantages of early fitness, it’s at the end is when it matters and every one is already fit by then.

But apparently Bellamy is very hard?

But they all do preseason training.

I think, the hard slog in preseason is required, obviously not only to get fit, but to show you are willing to do what is required to make it.

Players returning rep rep duties may still be ok, but to your point, if a key player got a season ending injury in rd 1 because he wasn't contact fit would you happy?
Trials should be treated as a real game or don't play for even 5 minutes.
A lot of injuries occur when your not committed

No, but we would expect him to be playing in the first and every game.

Injury is part of the game, but in years gone by, our depth has been shown to be very thin.
Not sure what it will look like next season, but if we lose our 6 or 7, we are f**ked before the season starts.

The trials are real games, but the results aren’t an issue, hence why they don’t play the better players in all the trials.

We will b ok if Latu sorts out his hammy issues as the kid is quality backup in the halves

But who's won more premierships.

Certainly no argument from me, they should be and firing for R1.

Just thinking there is not a huge need to see the top players to play all the trials, I think we played them in one of them only last season.

No point sending in the first 17 against the stormers.

I’d say a mixed squad with fringies.

I’d even be prepared to select the players we are trying to offload against the storm, see what they are made of, if they can knuckle down and make a stand.

A chance to redeem themselves or whatever.

That would fire up everyone I’d think.

Who are they?
Bateman, Nado and Sully.

I think Benji has to throw some fuel on the fire and get as many players anxious and hungry for a first grade spot as is possible.

We saw a lot of the usual suspects selected last season to no avail.

Stef always got a run despite playing chicken with the club all season and not playing to his potential.

Not under my watch.

Let's see if you right if they choose AD to play if he's still here.
Having said that, does he feature in the training vids?

I haven’t watched any I’m afraid.

AD can play some bloody good footy under certain conditions, including the elusive fitness.

He’s good for depth and God-willing can force his way back into the side.

He has the strike in him somewhere.

Nado, AD, Sullivan, these players had a very small but realistic chance of playing before the new recruits arrived. I think the door has shut on them now..I doubt they’ll see the light of game day again barring catastrophe
