The Balmain Premier league will be no more as of next year, they are merging with Ryde-eastwood and will be know as the Ryde-eastwood Tigers

Ryde are pulling out of the Jim Beam cup and are exculsively having a premier league side :shock: :shock:

Jersey Flegg i Believe will stay the same and will still be know as the Balmain tigers

Team Colours, coaches and playing staff are all still to be finalised as the deal was made yesterday, it is very similar to the Penrith/St Marys cougars deal

Love to hear Balmain supporters thoughts about losing thier identiity, they just keep kicking you guys in the guts first moving home games away from leichardt and now this :( :(

Believe me this is not a rumor the deal was done yesterday and it is set in stone 8)

They where virtually that this year, Balmain offered to merge with Wests but now that looks like it is way on the back burner and could never happen to be honest - Ryde Eastwood are looking more and more likely at doing a take over of Balmain as the years go on :(

It's a smart move. Ryde Eastwood are in the district. At least the Club is thinking laterally about the future.

In a nut shell the club will have no future unless they did something with their PL side at the very least - RE was always going to take over if Wests didn't and well more fool Wests because this now means Balmain pay squat to the PL side, not too mention RE actually probably could have more money in the bank than what Wests would

Are things that grim?

Imagine if we had gone alone instead of the merger. We would have folded in less than three years by the sound of it.

As it is, the mighty Balmain Tigers appear to be heading the way of their wild cousins. :cry:

That was Balmains prefered option now Wests fear isn't Balmain its a take over from Ryde Eastwood who as I thought do have more money than Wests and Balmain combined!

Mate I have this funny feeling that because of Wests not approving a 50/50 PL merge and that they have said to various people that they do plan such and such by certain date that Balmain have already elected that the JV might soon become a sign of the past for them - Ryde Eastwood on the other hand have a different opinion and well Wests better look out because they do have a heap more in the bank than what they do ;-)

Looks can be deceiving champ ;-)

I find this very sad, they only reason I supported the joint venture was because Balmain still existed. It's a sad day for Rugby League if it is true. :(

Balmain are still in away supporting the JV

Apperantly it is only for a 12mth agreement as well at this stage

This is a 3 year sponsorship deal by Ryde-Eastwood.
The side will be called Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers. The shirt and logo is unchanged.
There will be a full-time coach.
The fact is that there is a strong and growing relationship between Balmain and Ryde-Eastwood. This works well with the geographical proximity and players moving from Jim Beam to PL.
No doubt there is more to come on this story but I gather those are the facts.

If they will indeed be the 'balmain ryde-eastwood tigers' I can support it (knowing how much we need the money they are contributing

but if we drop the balmain name I won't be able to get behind them

Brook - I agree - but have been assured that it is the Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers, the Balmain jersey and the Balmain logo. Presumably Ryde-Eastwood will appear as the sponsors.
