Oh no... I haven't... What's the problem? We stuck with AOB till the end of time?

McDermott was talking about how, although the quality of athletes is similar, the gulf in professionalism/facilities between the two comps is huge. Pretty much that he’s still trying to find his feet in the NRL and learn how things are done. Give him a year or two as an assistant before worrying about him being a head coach.

Looks like AOB is as good as gone now. Great news. Hopefully the only reason we didn't fire AOB last season was because we didn't have a back up plan or structure in place. With Parr and McDermott now here, we are totally ready to fire AOB.
You are absolutely kidding yourself.

Also, how does McDermott not own any part of the performance on Friday night?

When ever in NRL history has the assistant coach been blamed for a teams performance? Come on man.

That's like saying AOB is so great because he's won 4 premierships... Oh wait.
We love quoting the 4 premierships thing out of context, but we are preparing McDermott as his successor given - all the comments around how our play hasn’t changed from last year - it appears he has contributed absolutely nothing to the club in the pre-season?

Can’t have it both ways…

The buck stops with the head, assistants are just that, assistants. In our case it’s O’Brien as he has the final say.
Doesn’t matter if it’s President, Manager, Boss or owner that is where the final responsibility lies

What’s not to understand?

The whole coaching squad needs to be held accountable - not just one guy who is the boss. They all play their part.
That’s some next level whataboutery. You’re going to defend him to the bitter end aren’t you?!

I’m not even defending him - I’m realistic in what the club will do.

However if you replace shit with the same shit, what does getting rid of AOB even achieve?

When Ricky was with us he lost 9 in a row before he sacked himself. It’s way to early to end the suffering.

Flanno is available. Is not as shit as AOB.

It feels like you're defending him without having the guts to actually defend him. By arguing the point of "it won't happen", which is unfalsifiable by anyone on here until it happens - a pointless discussion and distraction from the actual issue at hand (whether he SHOULD be sacked), you're sidestepping what you actually want to say because that's so easily refuted.

Basically, he's totally indefensible, and you're taking the only pro-AOB argument that's left to occupy without looking daft.

The simple question you should answer (because it's what people are actually discussing) - but you haven't yet - is whether you think he should be sacked or not. Whether he will be or not is just not relevant to what anyone is saying.

Like, answering your questions seems so silly? What does sacking a leader that has been in place for 4 years now and only lead us in a downward trajectory do? The answer is so obvious - you roll the dice again to see if you can get a leader who can fix the trajectory. Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't - but sticking with the same and expecting different results - well there's an old saying about that.

It’s got nothing to do with guts. I’m taking the emotion out of it and looking at what a highly successful leagues club would do financially - and that is not pay another coach out again. They said they wouldn’t do that after paying Browny $500K to leave.

I agree with everyone that our trajectory is uninspiring at best. I agree he needs a bit more of a chance with a new half given he was left with no half last year, and made the finals two years prior.

I would say he is only sacked IF we have an outstanding candidate to replace him - and that isn’t Shane Flanagan or Des Hasler.

The bigger problem is the ingrained attitude problem in the club. If that doesn’t change, it doesn’t matter who coaches them, and there have been a string of good coaches who can’t make that change.
