As we have seen in that past, Flanno needs to do so much more wrong before he gets booted. Saints will keep him at least till his last season so you have at least 2.5 years to go before they even consider letting him go. He needs to really have them playing bad for 30+ consecutive games.

I think everyone’s forgetting that flannos one promise for this year is that we will win more games than last year. That’s only 4 more wins. What did you lot expect to win the comp with a shit roster in his first year in charge?

He said the goal is to play finals footy but that’s every teams goal, realistic or otherwise. He didn’t promise that

Not that I take the title of this thread seriously (and yeah I know it was a joke title when it started) but here's some perspective for the keyboard warriors expecting an instant turnaround for us in '24.
Flanagan took over Sharks late in season 2010. In effect, they were 2nd last (3rd last actually but the cheating purple scum had all their points docked). Team record was 7 / 17 - better than the shape Griffin left us in.
In his first full season, 2011, once again they finished 7 / 17. In round 2 they actually beat us, a team in red hot form, flying high after a GF win. But by end of season no discernible improvement, obviously also he's coaching a squad he's mostly inherited.
2012 - they finished 12 / 12. On the up.
It wasn't until 2013 that they started to win more than they lost - 14 / 10. Another 3 years until they turned the porch lights off.
That's how long it can take to turn a neglected football team around. I actually think he'll get us competitive at least a year quicker than the Sharks, but the stats above suggest people are going to need patience.

Bronco's were rubbish for a few years before they came good. 3 years prior to last year they did not make the 8 and they have nearly a whole state to choose from when it comes to players. 2020 - last, 2021 - 14th, 2022 - 9th. Bronco's have had good cattle all the time just bad coaches outside of Wayne. Good to see Kevvie going well. Great fella.

Have a look at the Broncos roster at the time and compare it to ours. Vastly superior. Especially the forwards they had coming through and about to hit their straps. Then add a couple of good signings.

I'd be happy if we finish this year with 7 wins. It may just be enough to avoid the spoon.

I will be happy if Saints can win their 2 games against the Tigers and the Dogs, Home games to the Dolphins and Titans and jag a win against the Rabbits and Sharks. That is 8 games on top of the 2 they already won. They will end up with 10 wins for the season. 2 byes that is 24pts. Might not get them in Finals but will be close and a good platform to build on next season. Probably attract some players more if they get that high. That will be a good season for me. I feel that should be achievable to be honest. Losing to the others won't be too disappointing as long as they are closer than what we have seen so far. Saints play some of the good teams during origin when they will have a few out so Saints can jag a win there.

It all starts this weekend against the Tigers. C'mon you Dragons. Give us something.

It's funny how Ryan Carr had the Saints competing better when he took over from Hook. They did not lose many games by big scores and they played against mostly top 8 sides. Probably shows how underestimated he was.

I hope he stays the 3 years and if Flanno does not work out give him a crack. He really impressed me as a coach and I feel he will be a future NRL head coach.

Griffin's point differential was -47 from 10 games. Losing by just under 5 points a game.
Carr's was-152 from 14. Losing by just under 11 a game.
Our 3 worst losses (by point differential) were
52-16 Sharks (Carr)
40-8 Sharks (Griffin)
48-18 Warrios (Carr).
Carr did have more top 8 opponents.
In one 5 game streak, Griffin lost 5 games in a row, scoring equal tries in 4 of those games and more tries in one game.

Their owners and other media pitching in to prop up their players and salaries. Except for Billy Walters their 3 spine members alone would be market value of about $3m combined. Then you have origin players Haas, Carrigan, Staggs, Cobbo and you are looking at $6m for 7 players and nearly 60% of the cap. 23 to go. You do the math that is enough from me.

The difference for Flanno @ the sharks is the salary cap increases werent a factor... Players moved between clubs more freely + gallen was there as a figurehead...

Try to imagine now this 2024 side with 3-4 more first graders in it, plus marquees in the bank for 2025.. But he can't land a thing.. that's why he is looking at Fulton and co.. Its why AFB not coming was such a big deal for our future..

As for the Broncos, imagine if most of the teams in all grades of nsw SG, flegg, nsw cup etc.. all fed into the dragons 1st grade side. That was (and mostly still is) the Broncos situation.. This kids and their families r all lifelong Broncos fans too.

So when they were trying these new kids like Walters and mam and co, there was 4 or 5 absolute guns ready in each position.. Kevvie can chop and change to his hearts content.. And outcast the rest.. Walters was considered trash for a while but eventually won the 9 jersey back...i was hoping we might have got him at one stage..

Compare that to flanno.. He has mulheisen as his only other 9 option, Matt feagai as is only actual fullback depth (lomax is just robbing another position), he has kid in rumble in JF who's just starting out.. Like his depth is bugger all.. His only way out is to get more out of his average as shit roster.. And consider any option possible to get recruits interested.. All while keeping his job.
