Flanno isnt perfect, but he can get a side up for gameday, imagine if he actually had a squad with the talent that most other NRL sides are blessed with... and a forward pack that regularly matched their opposition... or a long kicking game... I think he outcoaches a lot of his fancier rivals.

But the more I thought about it, the more it became what was the alternative and unless they had Bellamy/Bennett lined up (which is never happening).. it just would have led to 1-2 yrs of absolute hot mess with recruitment and results while we transitioned.. for a new coach who was no more likely to succeed than this one.... I dont think we have a choice but to give Flanno some decent support in terms of backroom staff.. help him fix this roster... and let the guy coach...

I will say however that part of that staff we need is 1 or 2 quality football heads to act as sounding boards for Flanno.. you all know what its like when your inside your own head all the time, how you can get it wrong with the way you see certain issues... let alone a man in a pressure position like Shane is.. you need rational clever football finds to bounce off.. and we didnt have that the last 2 years.. bar perhaps Deano.. but I think we can do much better, more than just 'run hard tackle hard' we needed clever brains for both on-field stuff and recruitment.

This just in…. Flanno Jr to be extended for the next 10 years as captain, assistant coach and starting half back. More details to come.

in all seriousness. I’m glad Flanno was extended. He’s done pretty well with what he’s been given. I think it’s not on him that the team can’t sign top notch talent.

I am happy for the Coach to be extended. We have put the platform’s in place for a better an sustainable future.
Results will no doubt confirm or otherwise going forward.
Well done by the Club to at least seek some future success.
NOW THIS “SACK FLANAGAN “thread can be put to bed please.

Sorry, this is too funny to not tag, hahahah, you are so out of touch with reality hornbag.

No response needed flog, you’ve already embarrassed yourself more than enough.
Enjoy the next 4 years of Flanno ya muppet!!!
Hahahahahahah

I don’t understand the anti Flanno culture that has particularly developed this season. We have lost some very close games this year which is heart breaking but much better than being flogged just about every game before Flanno game along. Because of those close loses makes Where we sit on the ladder not a true indication of the teams performances this season. Looking at the mountain of negative comments on FB about Flanno and Kyle makes the Dragons fans look like a pack Whingers. This is obviously not true as most Dragon fans show loyalty and appreciate the on going improvement of the team under Flanno’s coaching.

It's time to remove this thread flanno is a long term coach at Dragons.
The future is looking good with the juniors coming on in next few years to lead the club to success.

All the injuries this year has actually been a blessing for these young crop of players coming through. Most of them have had a taste of FG. Next year we can push for the top 4 if we sign an alpha prop and a genuine 7

It’s been a successful season. If you agree we should have beaten the Dogs a few weeks back then yes, it’s been a great month.
A lot to look forward to next season

Well we may as well remove this column as now the club has thrown a couple more years at Flanno they will not sack him for at least another 18 mths.
What are you and your mates going to do Hornby, It must be tough.
Congratulations to all the above forumites on your absolutely ridiculous comments, just over six months ago. Glad to see a few of you have sinced changed tune, to the others, please give yourselves an uppercut at your earliest convenience and congratulations on being so dumb and wrong 😂😂😂💗😂😂💗💗😂😂😂

I wouldn’t mind Brad Arthur taking over.
I think Shane has to step aside and admit we are way worse off then what he convinced the board and management he would achieve in the last few years. His comments about not winning the GF before the Vegas game was a massive nail in the coffin, no coach says that that would have rocked a few players mentality 100%. I think Arthur deserves another shot coaching NRL maybe he could poach Mitch Moses. Reed and Moses combo would be exciting. Atkinson can play FB

Unfortunately that's extremely wishful thinking. Firstly, why would Arthurs or any half decent coach want to take on this mess? It would be the career kiss of death. Second, Moses is on $1.3M a season, he's contracted to 2029, and has got way more chance of playing finals footy with Parramatta, so why in hell would he want to move to Wollongong? Thirdly Moses is a halfback, Reed is a halfback, surely we're better off giving Reed a go and shifting Atko to 5/8?

Flanno has overstated, maybe even lied to the Board and Management as to how the team is going, great pre-season etc. Then he dropped the comment about not making the grand final to give himself an excuse at the start of the year. Stepping down would be the honourable thing to do. Will it happen? I seriously doubt it. It's more likely we'll get an email from Watsford supporting him, and telling us he's the right man to turn things around.

The Moses comment was wishful thinking. But I guarantee if Arthur was offered the job he would jump at it. We need a change, Shane was around in the Mary/Hook years as assistant/list consultant etc he was an easy choice and job for the boys to keep Young close. We need a new direction and I think Arthur will come back and get us playing finals within a year

1. Atkinson 6. Gutho 7. Reed 9. Liddle 14. Cook and I wouldn't resign him no way in hell. Gutho should retire at the end of the year as well he is way to slow and takes every single Dummy it's comical. We have nothing to lose except dignity now. St George Illawarra dragons have never had a spoon and we should never be in that conversation it's bullshit and embarrassing.

Definitely need a change. It's worth noting that when Bennett was coach, you didn't just get Bennett, you got his whole support team. Trainers, conditioners, assistants, he bought with him who he needed. He got rid of the hanger-ons, except for Steve Price who the club insisted he keep. My point being if you just drop in a new coach, there's a good chance you may not improve results. You need to get rid of the whole rotten mess and start again.

The drums will definitely be starting to beat more loadly… I think his future comes down to the next two games.. if we can’t beat the cowboys and manly at home then he should be shown the door..
After that we have rabbits and roosters.. who will smash us.. shame to be not looking forward to the Anzac Day game at all…
We could be 0-8…

I had high hopes when Flanno took over, and I was happy to give him 18 months or so to see some improvement; but it doesn't look like it's coming. He's trapped with an old game plan that simply does not work in todays "6 again / helter-skelter" game. I find some of the 6-agains head spinning, and the play has moved on and I'm left thinking "what was that for"? The reality is that most teams have a fast and furious smaller player sniffing around the middle of the park and we don't (Liddle is an exception). Think Melbourne, Parra, Souths, Roosters, Bronco's, Cowboys, Dogs, Dolphins, Canberra etc; they have fullbacks who can hit the after burners and they are deadly with 20 minutes to go. We don't have that sort of player, and our big team gets fatigued at the 55-60 minutes mark. But this style is all on the coach; he's picked it and implemented it. Couple this with his manic desire to pick Kyle at all costs, means we are a stagnate attacking team. Our CEO said something last season that I thought was unusual for a CEO, when he said something about Kyle not playing 1st grade, or is a back up half etc. I saw that as a warning to Flanno, and it hasn't been taken. I'm thinking Flanno is on borrowed time, and given the look on his face the last few games you would hope that someone close would pull him aside and tell him that he doesn't need this pressure in his life. Retire Shane, be a grandfather and be happy you are part of a select group who can call themselves an NRL Premiership winning coach. It is time to move on, for all parties.

The Bleating and Moaning on here is so symptomatic of an old decrepit man with nothing better to do than create a mindless post called " Sack the Coach" and with no offer of anything better.
This rubbish of a thread would be typical of an Aged Care Facility all close to death and with nothing better to do than " Whine until Death" It's just a game and it will turn around.
