What a f*(king sad situation we find ourselves in. We all finally breath a sigh of relief when Griffin is punted and we sign a premiership winning coach after our last success in 2010 was with a premiership winning coach. Seemed like a sensible move. It actually seemed like our clown show of an administration might actually be thinking for once.
Year one showed some vague signs of improvement although the roster just wasn't good enough to compete. Year 2 we knock off both grand final teams along with the minor premiers only to lose the games we should expect to win. Disappointing but you could argue we weren't far off. We sign our first genuine marquee in ages over the off season.
Year 3 starts off with a courageous game in Vegas in which we get absolutely dudded by appalling refereeing. And then the wheels come off. We're getting worse each week!!!! What hurts is the terribly insipid way we are losing. Fortunately last night I decided cooking dinner was a better use of my time than watching the Cowboys game but the game reports are brutal.
Was a card carrying member of Team Flanno but yeah this is looking grim. For me the Flanno time here has been a bit like the boiling frog syndrome. It seems I missed that the pot was slowly heating up and all of a sudden the water is boiling and we're cooked!
Maybe I should have paid more attention to the (mostly) panicked recruiting strategy. Kyle. Ilias (I always hated that signing). Guler. Gutho. Cook. Holmes. Reserve grade wingers. Bringing back a proven dud in Kerr.
The failure to adapt to the modern game. A game that's getting faster and more attack focused every year under Vlandysball and we're trying to what? Play the most boring, unimaginative, impotent style of football that opposition defenses must just laugh at.
The failure to learn from this and to not try something else. In fact to double down and refuse to change both team selections and game plans.
To break what would have been quite a handy 6 in Atkinson and instead try to make him into a 7.
With all of this in mind I just have to conclude that our coach has misjudged the modern game and its requirements disastrously. I can't see this being turned around.
How on earth can we be in a position in which we're actively going backwards and still looking a million miles from even contending from a mediocre 8th spot?!?!?
This will be the 8th year in a row we watch September from the sidelines. It's f*(king unforgivable. And probably a few more years in the wilderness to follow. Blow it up.
Should fold. Club is beyond cooked

My Fear is that we are locked into Flanno's current contract and the Board are too tight to pay it out....

Then they will do what we all expect and put Deano in as the coach....

Its all downhill....since Benny Left....

The Board need a massive overhaul.....as many have stated this has all happened on their watch....

How do we not have better forwards and speed in the backs ?

No pressure on the current top 17 from reserves....

How do we not have ( apart from Reed ) some halves putting pressure on Atko and Kyle....

It beggars belief that our stocks have plummeted so badly....

We deserve the Spoon....

100% correct GS.

Unfortunately, the game has moved on from Flano and the basic barge and bust type play. Speed, speed and more speed is the order of the modern team. Throw in some footy smarts and at the very least you have a formula to work with.
Our roster is filled with rejects and those some clubs couldn't get rid of fast enough. These mostly being unable to adapt to the speed of the game.

Flano is cooked as HC in this modern era of RL.
Game plans are great, but if you haven't got the players to support it then you are just wasting yours and the Clubs time.

As I mentioned on another post, sacking Flano (is inevitable) seemingly can't come fast enough, however, the replacements in DY and/or ME are part of the current problem. DY has been the SAC since Flano started, it would be more of the same imo and he has to bear some responsibility also for our current predicament.

We need fresh ideas from a young progressive coach from outside of the Dragons. Peter Wallace would be my preference.

In the 80's St George signed Premiership winner Ted Glossop ( Bulldogs 1980), he lasted 1 year, Craig Young was appointed in 1989/90 also sacked, St George is going down the same path again.
In fairness to Glossop, the club had already been banjaxed by the ill-advised move to the SCG and letting go/failing to retain a butt-tonne of very handy players. After having won the Club Championship by a record 92 points in '85 we should have riding high for years.
Hence we go from Johnson or Burgess at FB to Djura or South. From Phil Morris or Cannon at 5/8 to Steve Robinson. From John Dowling to Trevor Bailey etc etc

How the hell does Haran, GM of Football keep his job through all this. His ten year tenure has resulted in nothing but abject failure and the disintegration of one of the best brands in Australian sport.

At the very least our CEO needs to pay this guy out and try someone new.

That Dark period for St George lasted from 86-90, until Brian Smith came along, this period is far longer, hopefully the current administration will bypass the Appointment of Dean Young and find our next Brian Smith.

He’s been involved with the club since 09 in different roles

We shouldn’t have experienced that dark period; we were wonderfully positioned making Grand Finals in all 3 Grades in 85 and all but in ‘84.
Similarly, we were wonderfully positioned ‘development wise’ under Smith before the Super League war came along. We’re positioned now with some promising young players coming through, lets not make it a trifecta!

Haha, you cant not reply.
I guess you don't miss Hook all that much, why would you when your man is beating all his records such as most consecutive losses in history? Reckon it can go past 9? Or do you still reckon there's a bounce back coming?

You’re such a simpleton with your little emojis and baiting tactics. Always trying to dunk on anyone who has a positive outlook.
Im not going to waste everyone else’s time in the forum by going back and forth with you for days on end, although you’d love that and couldn’t give a toss about anyone else in here.
So enjoy your time over the coming weeks calling out anyone who dared to be hopeful. Make sure you cash in on your receipts with your childish gotcha stuff.
Miserable prick.

I think he is as good as finished
Yes hewi he will not be around for much longer , nevertheless I believe what Kevi Walters said is very close to the mark .

He called for the Dragon players to take ownership of their half hearted performances, more so after their 1st up outing in Las Vegas , perhaps that took everything from them as they done everything that would be expected from a team except win the match .

But alas they return home and don’t seem to be able to run the length of the field without stopping for a rest , if I was the head honcho of the club I would draw up new contracts that mirrored their on field efforts .

Nothing wrong with having a positive outlook or being hopeful at all.
That's not yourself though, instead you're living in your own delusional fantasy land, to the point of being so dogmatic that you regularly denounce anyone who dares to question the direction of the team. You do this under the veil of humour, pretending you're the clown of the forum but in reality Thrush, you are too soft to even cop half of what you dish out to others.

Are you going to apologise for your snidey comments to fellow posters? Are you going to admit you were wrong about Flanagan and endeavour to take a more realistic approach in the future?

If not, then the sooner a resident of fairy land like yourself disappears from this forum, the better, please don't let the door hit you on the way out champion!

😂😂😂😂
