He was challenging for the Dally M playing at halfback. That's a good enough reason to justify his halfback credentials.
Much of the press had him as the odds on winner with just a few weeks to go and he got nowhere near winning the thing and got well and truly beaten in the end and didn't even finish 2nd

Hynes playing at a new club and his 1st full season at half made Hunt look like a rank amateur.

By all means tell me the similarities between Cleary and Hunt as they are both 7's?

If you can't see the differences in ability between Hunt and the "good" halves then you will be bitterly disappointed until Hunt finally leaves.

For the life of me I cannot understand how anyone can think Hunt is a "great" halfback.

He is a complete dud that occasionally finds a way to make things good primarily for himself and yet people crawl up his arse and instead of calling him out.

1. Poor game management.
2. Poor kicking game but for the occasional 40/20 which we rarely benefit from
3. Poor service to outside backs.
4. Unable to get bodies in motion or deep enough in attacking raids.
5. Poor decision making close to the opposition goal line.
6. Totally incapable of closing out a close game with a clutch play by himself and also incapable of setting up field position for anybody else to make the clutch play.
7. Has had many halves partners over his career and has been unable to combine with any of them for a sustained period.
8. Arm grabber at very critical times in defense
9. Can make our team very flat footed with his flat style of play and has sold many a dump to many a player.

If the above is what makes a great halfback then why haven't Cleary, DCE, Reynolds and a host of others displayed these "qualities" on a consistent basis like Hunt?
Might I add that he's a terrible leader and would rather blame his teammates when he throws a flick pass that goes 2m forward rather than have any accountability for his own actions.

Every single person on here would make a better coach than hook. Every single one of us.
I know who my pick would be...

The next 2 weeks are Hook's last stand. That is why he has bitten the bullet and made some drastic changes.
If we lose the next 2, surely he'll be gone.

However, I see couple of issues:

1. Who will be our goal kicker?
2. The first player I would have dropped based on last 4 weeks performance would have been Mbye. Why Liddle was dropped? Maybe Hook mixed them up.

Jack Bird will probably goal kick if Sully is on the bench. FMD and people whinge about Lomax and his goal kicking

Hunt is a good footy player. I think he is an excellent 9.

But halfback is a specialist role with important responsibilities for the team. I challenge you to name one aspect of halfback play where he consistently delivers.
Taking the line on and creates gaps on the edges
Aerial kicking close to the line
Thats it

Hunt was talked about last year as winning the Dally M , but as you say got done well and truly ....... The only reason Hunt was there about , because he was standing out as individual player in a poor team , not racking up points for being a good 7 .........

I think Griffin is gone and Hunt is going to sign elsewhere. It’s Cam McInnes all over again.
This season is over already for Hook, he’s only going to be re-signed if we play finals and that is almost impossible.
I’d say Des or Flanno will put pen to paper shortly and start to dictate selections based on who they plan to bring into the team next year.
Expect to get a good look at Sullivan going forward and Hunt to play less of a role.
