This is a ridiculous post! You honestly think someone other than Mcgregor is preparing the teams tactics ? Give the bloke some credit - he's turned it around and mind U as a collective w the players themselves ( no outside forces etc,..)

The team and via U grossly underperformed last year so this year all their doing is realising their potenti.al and not playing to a rigid formula.. Accept the facts that the coach that WE ALL WERE BAGGING is currently the form coach in the NRL .. Let's move on now!
Are you living in do doo land??????
Mary wont promote youth.
Mary dont want backs to score tries.
We brought Nene to provide score trying potential. Did he deliver NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Mary wants to play up the centre.
We did buy forwards and good one at that, this is our saving grace.
WE ARE FIRST and i for one congratulate them for that BUT he is copying bennets game plan, from 2010. Is this any good for 2017?
It is at the moment untill we hit easts and Melbourne and probably Canberra.

No way. The guy blames anyone and everyone last year to deflect responsibility from himself (from recruitment, to tries from kicks, to the field length, to that attacking coach from the cowboys and even the fans for expecting too much). He also gladly sat by and let people tear shreds of Benji and Rein (and yes, I know that those guys did hamstring our attack) as well as Widdop through the whole thing.

Good afternoon BennyV

I agree Mary did his best to deflect responsibility to others and threw several players under the bus.

What I said however is correct, he did field significant criticism.

I am an advocate of the wait and see approach when it comes to deciding whether to extend Mary's contract.

Its a long season. Injuries, form slumps and playing the top sides may see us slide back to the field.

Time will tell.

In the meantime we live in hope that the club and team are now trending upward.

Dugan is our best fullback option at the moment. I'd love to see Dufty come through in the next year or so. Dugan can move to the centres then. Although I'm happy for Dugan to move on altogether if we could snare Tedesco.

Both Dufty and Field will be afforded opportunities in the NRL, whether at the Dragons or elsewhere. I think they can both 'make it'.

Nene is ok, I much prefer Mann though. Somewhere. Nighty needs to retire this year, no question about it. Like Lafai, Nene is a depth signing.

Club first guy. Although Vaughan has been great.

I'm happy to roll the dice with Field, especially if that enables us to recruit top line player, like Tedesco.

Straight Shooter
Nene hasn't seen much ball outside Aitken, as we are predominantly going to the left side where Widdop plays, so until he's is given some chances ( HIGHLY unlikely playing outside Aitken ) I'm going to hold my judgement to hopefully see how much SPEED he has in the open.
Ps.
Happy for Field or Mann also. Still coming to terms with Widdop's late form reversal.

Now now mickeylane keep your shirt on.

As BennyV has stated in earlier posts, Mary has overseen the 2 worst losing streaks in recent club history.

Recruitment has improved the team this year with the inclusion of McInnes/Vaughan and McDonald.

Packer and Lafai are now healthy.

Duges and Widdop are playing for new contracts.

The strength and conditioning team have the side fitter than ever.

I would love to think that our super run this season is due heavily to Mary's improvement as a coach.

What I am saying is that the improvement in team form is a combination of many factors.

One hopes that Mary has grown as an NRL coach.

The jury is out as to how much of an impact Paul has made personally on team form.

I acknowledge he is a fine painter and a good bloke. I would prefer a master tactician. But that's just me.

I'd be very happy to be a top 8 team this year and a top 4 team next year.. Remember we were favourites for the Wooden Spoon this year!!

Agree got to give him some ball. He's only had two decent kicks come his way too, got taken out in one, scored in the other and the rest of the kicks to him have been poor. His kick returns and carry's look good.

Defence really needs work.

I'd love to see what he has in open space.

Again, which youth are you referring to? I think Mary promotes youth as suits the team. No point putting all young kids in and turning into the tigers or knights. I think you should go through the current team list and tell us which youth would do a better job than the person in the team now.
Start at 1. Dugan etc etc.

Also, not really sure about the dated game plan theory. We have beaten Panthers, Sharks, Manly all who are competition heavyweights so it seems like clutching at straws to say wait till we play roosters, raiders and storm.

The biggest change is Rein is gone. Players no longer have to pick up balls at their feet or 2 feet behind them. That makes a very big difference. Let's not forget that this idiot kept picking Rein all last year.

Let's also not forget Rein was initially picked by Wayne Bennett in 2011. Appropriating blame for last year's shambles is silly considering the Marshall/Widdop scrum was as fertile as an Eunich having a root.

Did the Dragons announce McGregor had signed a 2 year deal at half time, cause 2nd half we looked like the old Dragons...
Yeah you are right AyiosYiorgos. Lets throw shit on the dragons for winning their 5th game in a row and leading the comp. What a great supporter.
BTW, any comment about the 1st half? I would say its the best I have seen them play since 2011

To not give mary credit for the transformation in this team is silly imo.
He is the coach.
He, and a few others from within the club, have stated he has taken a back seat to all other aspects (recruitment etc etc) and he is solely focusing on coaching.
Lets at least give credit where credit is due.
One more thing... some say "lets wait and see how we go against the heavyweights"... ummmm... witg us coming first who do we need to beat to see where we are at as a team?
I think other teams need to calm down untill they meet us :)
In this fans eyes all credit goes to mary and each of the 17 players each week.
They are making everyone eat humble pie, and rightfully so.
Well done Mary and all the boys so far.

Don't feel Mary had much to do with either half.

In first half we saw a team whose confidence is growing. We played an expansive game.

In the second have our intensity and concentration dropped a bit and the mistakes/penalties gave the Cowboys the chance to attack, and attack they did. Don't feel the halves controlled the field position in the second half. Most kicks went straight down the throat of the receiver.

Lets hope the team learns from the experience.

No, I'de say it is the best half played by any Dragons side ever. In fact it was that good, we only needed to play for one half & we still beat them…..

Really, Great Supporter is that the best you have.. My comment was made regarding the 2nd half, which was SHIT, nothing more nothing less, i don't want to see them getting back into bad habits like last year...

Digusting ref's in the 1st 10 minutes(2nd Half) , then saints went into a trance , McGregor has done well, at the end the boys did well to grind out a win..we are the tall poppy, I also think the boys are running out of gas, keep thrashing them I love it, they love it , bring on the Roosters I am hungry!

You only sack the coach if there is a superior option on the market, otherwise you're just going sideways.

After such a shocking second half, sacking Mary is now the only option.
If we don't, how can we re-sign old bug eyes back up again and upgrade his contract at half time during the Anzac game?
I miss putting sh-t on 'he who has head like a smacked a-hole'.

To be perfectly and 100% clear, you think our success so far this year is rooted in an attacking structure similar to Bennett's out the back play to a sweeping Boyd and that Dugan and now Flo are successfully playing as "2nd 5/8ths".

Not too worried about that second half to be honest. Just one of those halves where one team had all the momentum and are hard to stop. 5-1 penalty count didn't help. 2 lucky tries off kicks as well.

Credit to the Cows, who would have thought Asiata would do so well in the halves and Ponga was dangerous every time he touched the ball. Hess and Taumalolo were just beasts as well. Most teams would have struggled to contain them in that 30 min period.

Happy we got the 2 points and not winning by 50 will do us a world of good for Anzac Day.
