So last year's circus was acceptable to you?!!!

RED ALERT: UNADULTERATED APOLOGIST ON THE LOOSE.

And answer a few questions about the team. Lets learn something about mr.morbid himself other than sack the coach and the board.
What do you think about josh dugan? Should he be re-signed? Do you think he is our fullback moving forward?
Do you reckon dufty and field will make it in the nrl?
Was Macdonald a good buy? We did already have Mann and Nighty? Did we need Macdonald?
Hunt? Who will partner him? Do we try to keep widdop or let him go and roll the dice with field?
Would you be happy for Vaughan, Frizzell, JDB to play origin or are you more of a club first kind of guy?
Cmon Objective View. Contribute something other than your usual negative BS.
Answer the questions, I am intrigued.

Dugan on Sterlo this evening and he categorically gave all kudos to the teams change of form to Mcgregor!! He was quite clear in his accolades to the coach. Apparantky all has to do w attitude change - I actually believe its that plus a new half, hooker and power prop.

Three subtle changes were enough to make this team competitive.

You have a point BUT- why is it when we lose it's the coaches fault, when we win it's not the coaches doing? I don't understand that. Give credit where it is due is all I am saying? Changing team structures etc is at least a 4-5 year plan.
You must have missed the many posts congratulating the team AND giving Mary credit. He has taken on board whatever has been thrown his way and helped transform the team to where they are. If you and The Doc have missed that then I suggest go back and have a read over this thread and a few others. As for changing team structures being a 4-5 year plan, frankly, you should support Penrith. Their 5 year plan is now out to about 7 and not getting any closer to fruition.

Dugan is our best fullback option at the moment. I'd love to see Dufty come through in the next year or so. Dugan can move to the centres then. Although I'm happy for Dugan to move on altogether if we could snare Tedesco.

Both Dufty and Field will be afforded opportunities in the NRL, whether at the Dragons or elsewhere. I think they can both 'make it'.

Nene is ok, I much prefer Mann though. Somewhere. Nighty needs to retire this year, no question about it. Like Lafai, Nene is a depth signing.

Club first guy. Although Vaughan has been great.

I'm happy to roll the dice with Field, especially if that enables us to recruit top line player, like Tedesco.

The players know Mary took some heavy stick for the team performance last year.

The general consensus among players and commentators is that Mary is a good bloke.

He does not come across as a rocket scientist. Hence my theory is that at the start of the season Mary told the players to:

1) go out and "play whats in front of you" (code for buggered if I know how to organise a game plan)
2) go out and enjoy yourselves (because soon we will all be unemployed)
3) take responsibility for your performances (code for work this out yourselves)

Alternatively, someone else is preparing the team for game day each week. For all we know Widdop is now captain/coach.

Really don't care who is preparing the team at the moment. Winning feels so good. Fire up you dragonsssssss

Yeh, something is definitely different this year, particularly in attack. Someone in the off season showed these guys how to execute. Hornby and Head perhaps?

The last try against Manly is a clear example. Clinical, passes hitting the man, decoys running right lines and Mann finishing in the corner. Was poetry in motion and a far cry from anything we saw last year.

And wasn't it nice to see a FB execute a catch and pass play like Nighty did for that last try?

Sometimes I think Dugan stifles the attack and either kicks or runs when he should pass maybe a new fullback is what's required

No way. The guy blames anyone and everyone last year to deflect responsibility from himself (from recruitment, to tries from kicks, to the field length, to that attacking coach from the cowboys and even the fans for expecting too much). He also gladly sat by and let people tear shreds of Benji and Rein (and yes, I know that those guys did hamstring our attack) as well as Widdop through the whole thing.

The difference is that the halves are running at the line, drawing the man before passing. Last year benji and rein were running sideways and giving the ball to motionless backs who would get smashed.
That try against Manly, from memory, McCrone got the ball and ran at the defense for about 4 steps before passing to widdop, that created space for widdop to throw the cutout pass to lafai who drew his man and flick pass to the winger to score. It was the initial running at the line from McCrone that had the defense guessing.
Last year that didn't happen.

Calm down Benny, you sound hysterical. Get out of the sack mcgregor thread and go to the Round 7 thread and fire up for the big game!

If you're talking about the last try, Widdop threw the pass to Nighty who then passed to Lafai, who flicked pass to Mann.

Simple try through the hands. Difference was, the fullback and centre had the vision to catch and pass, which we don't get when Duges and Aitken get the ball.

Nighty isn't really a fullback, just an experienced, wily footballer. It's just interesting we finally scored a backline try through the hands when Nighty was tasked with playing the fullback role.

Pretty sure the last try was from a kick where widdop scored under the posts in the dying minutes.
Anyway, I missed out nighty from that backline movement, what a champion he is.
I still remember thinking Mccrone was impressive by running at the line to create doubt. Last year benji would just skip across the field and give it to the winger who would get smashed into touch!

The biggest change is Rein is gone. Players no longer have to pick up balls at their feet or 2 feet behind them. That makes a very big difference. Let's not forget that this idiot kept picking Rein all last year.

This is a ridiculous post! You honestly think someone other than Mcgregor is preparing the teams tactics ? Give the bloke some credit - he's turned it around and mind U as a collective w the players themselves ( no outside forces etc,..)

The team and via U grossly underperformed last year so this year all their doing is realising their potential and not playing to a rigid formula.. Accept the facts that the coach that WE ALL WERE BAGGING is currently the form coach in the NRL .. Let's move on now!
