Does anyone on here have any idea if the Club is contemplating ‘reassigning ‘ McIncompetent given the current availability of Hasler, Henry and Macguire

Deja Vu for me ... we could/ should have picked up Anthony Griffin after Pricey's sacking. Bronco coaching pedigree, shafted by Bennetts return, clubless for months. Eventually Panthers picked him up and he takes their mediocre roster to Top 8.

Not the Dragons logic - novice FG coach appointment ends disastrously... so lets appoint another one.

More like fighting to stay out of the bottom four

If the dragons don't make the 8 next year then I expect there to be an angry mob down at Kogarah. Pitchforks, fires, photos of McGregor on a spike.

But after just missing out on the 8 this year there is no way that you're not fighting for a top 4 spot for next year. Graham and hunt are great acquisitions. If the rumours are true and you end up getting koroibete as well then it truly will be McGregors fault if you miss out. It's do or die for the majority of the dragons team and the coaching staff. I understand there's a lot of disappointed fans after 2017 but f**k that, no one was gonna beat the storm this year. JDB for captain as well.

Hey I'm just pointing out the obvious  dragons will probably be fighting for a top 4 spot next year! I think it'll be interesting to see what happens to this thread after that!
Mate, the equivalent to that was making the 8 this year and we fell short. I agree the team for 2018 will be better(outside backs notwithstanding)but we lack the tactical smarts(bench, game plan etc.) to be able to alter our style of play that could put us out of reach of a pretty tight groups of teams in what is always a competitive fight for a finals place.

Yeah you're right there were a few games that you guys basically let slip through your fingers but I think if anything the playing group learns from that. I can't see the dragons coming out next year and making the same mistakes. Graham is a player that will make sure of that.

If we are shooting for top 4 how much better do we need to be next season to finish in front of Storm. Sharpies, Cowboys, Broncos and Easts. All these teams have bought well. Its going to be hard with McIdiot at the helm

We had a soft draw this year and still missed the eight.
All it will take is a tougher draw and an injury or two next season and we will be fighting to stay out of the bottom 4.
Potentially...

I totally understand your frustration but I think you're being pretty pessimistic. You guys basically lost the games that you should of easily won whilst won games that you probably should've lost. The Souths game and knights game were massive upsets but the reality is is that you shot yourselves in the foot. My perspective is that you guys held your own against most of the top teams, even beating the sharks twice if I remember correctly? But at the same time didn't show enough respect to those teams below you on the ladder. Going into next year if the team can pull their heads out and learn to grind out games I definitely think they'll be competitive. I think the dragons are in a much better spot than most teams in the bottom 8. Even some teams in the top 8 (Penrith, Eels, broncos) are looking a lot worse for next year.

Why will Graham be able to do that at the Dragons when he couldnt ensure it at the Grubs

Top 4 is a pipedream and Hunt and Graham are not enough to make it happen.
We also lost Dugan and Packer so is the change over equation really so significant?
Probably not.
A lot is riding on what Hunt will bring to the table but as I have said numerous times, any squad of players need to be coached to success.
McGregor is not qualified to do that even on a good day.
The worst thing is that we may well scrape into the 8 and that would be enough to perpetuate the mediocrity that the club is happy to accept.
We keep talking about recruitment but when you compare our coach to the top teams - Bellamy, Green, Bennett, Flanagan, Robinson - we are in kindergarten.
We have already endured 3.5 years of McGregor and are saddling up for another season of more of the same.
Why do they persevere?

If we’d scraped into the 8 this year I would have been more optimistic for next year on account we would have arrested the slide and learnt a few things(mainly aimed at the coach). Seeing that we crashed I don’t know what can be taken out of that as a positive(regardless of the inevitable spin coming out about improvement vs. 2016). Personally, I am not a wrist slitting pessimist, more a realist that we will be in a similar position to this year but scrape into the 8 on the back of an improved halves combination. I just can’t see much more than that. Appreciate your less blinkered optimism though.

I would be more confident if we won 2, then lost 2, won another 2, then lost 3,
won 3, then lost 2....etc. etc

But to win only 4 from the final 15 or something games......lucky we werent spooners.

Take away our early season mini streak......dead set last

I am actually mostly optimistic but I just think top 4 is unrealistic given how this year finished up. BTW, I see Broncos, Eels and Penrith in a better spot than Dragons next year.
Yes we have a great pack and quality halves but our backs are rubbish and our coach is too conservative. He will probably put nightingale at fullback next year....

Off season has not even started-
We have World Cup, Trials and Auckland Nines - all teams take a risk with players and aim is to come thru that maze of preseason. Let's hold fire about dire predictions on not making the 8 or top 4 ...don't forget we may still have another 1 or 2 players to be added to our squad...

Yeah I totally feel that as well. It's not easy to be optimistic after that end to the season so I understand.
