I know mate. I tend to look for positives even when sometimes they aren't there...

There have never been any positives with Mary ...unless you count being held to zero at Kogarah twice for the first time in Dragons history....or being the 2nd team since The Titans to be leading the comp in round 8 and then miss out on the 8....

Oh hang on..a positive..he's an old boy and bleeds Red and White.

He has a better squad next year...and should have been retrenched already. The main point being will we win a Premiership with Mary in charge. I say NO...so why keep him.
He's clearly nowhere near the top coaches but we have been playing with the worst halfback in the competition. Yes you can say that was his choice to play McCrone at halfback but even still there weren't many better options. Mann should have played the whole season at half maybe but he also seems like a confidence player. Great one week poor the next so not sure he would have been a quality half either.
Lets see next year. Its a win win I think. If Hunt is the missing link and we are playing deep in the finals then thats best case scenario. If even with Hunt at half Mary cannot chalk up the wins then fire him and get someone in in 2019 that will still have a quality side to work with.
Win Win mate!

Now I understand why Mary was resigned early, Warrington came over looking for a coach and signed Price. Lol, just giving the board an excuse.

Love your optimism but I cannot see it as a win/win...Again..Can we win a premiership with the Current coach? I say no...While he is in charge we are wasting time in terms of trying to win a premiership and before you know it we will be in rebuilding phase again...each team has a limited window ( unless your the Storm or Roosters / broncos ) and we look like we are heading into that phase...Get a real coach and we are a chance. Otherwise, again another wasted opportunity.
I don't want to wait another 32 years before we win a premiership.

The only thing to fear next year is if we scrape into the 8 and go out week 1. That would suck because the board will be satisfied enough not to fire Mary yet it will be a disappointment in the fans eyes. We need top 4 and deep into the finals or miss the eight altogether to get the result that will satisfy us fans IMO.

The current board are satisfied with not making the 8....we have made it once since Bennett left and that was a Bradbury because K.Foran allegedly bet against Manly in the final round loss they had helping us to scrape into the 8. 6 years and once into the 8...talk about lowering the bar...if this happened at any other club we would have a new coach by now.

With Hunt coming McIdiot will need adjust to him. The Power game needs to be done in the first quarter of each half and then let Hunt run his normal gamel
McInness neads to run from dummy half. I seem to remember one game he did that and score two tried.
We will have a more attacking side next season with Hunt and Dufty and hopefully some speed on the wing.
I just feel that he does not have the expertise to develope a game plan to balance our backs and forwards,
I am sure coaches like Bellany has different game plans for different teams.

I'll go out on a limb and say most coaches would struggle to get the Dragons to actually win games.

The reason being alot of the players are mentaly fragile they drift in and out of games and make the most fundamental errors and alot of this has nothing to do with coaching its about attitude.

Its obvious some of them have an attitude problem some seem happy to just glide through games without making much of an effort and not afraid of being dropped.

Graham should help in that sense with his no nonsense approach.

Attitude of the players largely mirrors the attitude of the coach.

Melbourne concentrate for 80 minutes and will resort to any tactic imaginable to win.

Mary has an excuse book that is longer than "War and Peace".

The top coaches are not afraid to drop players or change tactics.

Mr "no plan B, Josh McCrone is my half back" should be coaching Dapto Under 6s, not STGI.

Without flogging a dead horse that is the responsibility of the coach to identify(not really hard to)& rectify.
Mary being a self proclaimed ‘straight shooter’ shouldn’t have a problem telling it like it is but when he excuses tries from kicks and fields being 2m too long it makes you wonder about his own mental state.

McGregor is responsible but so are the players yet they cop alot less flack.

I sure as hell want McGregor gone which I know isn't going to happen but some of the players half the time they look like they don't give to shits.

If 2018 was McGregor's second year then I would support a "let's see what he can do next year" approach.
Unfortunately 2018 will be year number 4+ with McGregor in charge and we are just heading down the same path.
Decisions like McCrone at halfback were McGregor's and all the post mortems in the world cannot change the fact that he was the one responsible for 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Widdop's combinations with Benji and McCrone and briefly Mann were yet another insight into McGregor's ineptitude OR Widdop doesn't gel with anyone.
So Hunt coming is great for the team but he still has to be coached and given direction.
Hunt is not going to make the game plans for McGregor.
We should stop thinking of him (Hunt) as some kind of messiah.
He is a great player but part of our total roster and starting 17.
The rest is up to the coach.

To quote one of the greatest football movies ever, 'Attitude reflects leadership'.

The lack of desire comes from Mary, who sets targets like 'win 50% of games' and 'finish with 30 points to make the 8'...he will also find any reason under the sun to avoid accountability, and this trickles to the players.

A good coaches needs to be a good man manager and a good tactician, or they need to be seld-aware enough to outsource one of these to a good assistant. McGregor has no man-management skills for professional sport, poor tactical mind (or at least an inability to coach those tactics into players) and is too arrogant to properly use the skills of those working for him.

Sure, they players attitude and skill set need to take some responsibility, but I guarantee that employing a decent coach would yield better results than upgrading all our poor players. Hell, it was the desire and skill of our players that papered over the major cracks in Mary's ability for the past 4 years.
