Can someone confirm that each side ie Dragons and WIN/Illawarra have 4 members each, but the Illawarra Board member has no voting rights in this situation?

If so, then the Dragons side would hold a 4 to 3 vote majority.
He's cooked.

The only issue i see is when he goes, not if.
4 options are obviously in play:

1. Sack him immediately and appoint a caretaker for the remaining 6 games.
2. Sack him but keep him on 'till after the final season game.
3. Keep him and say his contract will he honoured, but no further.
4. Allow him to 'graciously' say he's immediately stepping down from the head coaching role 'for the good of the club and team'.

I feel options 2 and 3 are the worse case scenarios. Considering having to sign players etc.
Option 4, may just he his 'get out of jail' card, and leave with some dignity.
Options, 1 and 4 at least will give us time to search and appoint a 'suitable' replacement. If Weildler is correct then there's no pointvin waiting for Flanno for 2022. To much time will pass, and it still provides us with no certainty for recruitement and retention.
Intrim coach for the rest of this season I'm ok with, be that Young or Shepherd, however, wd need to appoint a head coach ready for 2021.
Fitzgibbon looks like he'll stay with the Roosters.
Ryles is uncommitted to the NRL.
Wane looks the best candidate, in my opinion.
Some fhatter that we have spoken to Green, but nothing more.

Sorry, i forgot, there us 1 from left field, that could come into the coaching calculation..........Eddie Jones

“ The Wollongong mob are still supporting him “ ? ? ?

Holy crap after all these years of abject failure and those looneys are still supporting the imbecile of a coach ! Good lawd , the man has no idea whatsofookingever and they still give him their best wishes ?

Well that’s got me stumped fellas , this must be sorted if only in the best interest ( of moving forward ) of the Joint Venture - if it is to survive .

Should the Illawarra side not see common sense , then end this charade now and allow both clubs to stand alone .

They can take the Gordon’s and their squillions of dollarswith them and we will find another more worthy benefactor who is hell bent on success on the field .

I’m told the directors are split. The Wollongong directors are supporting him but those at Kogarah aren't,” he said. This is the quote from Buzz ...... How in the F**k can the Wollongong mob still support him .....
The loyalty is suparsed by the mediocrity

Dragons may again hold fire on Paul McGregor as 'far cheaper pay-out' looms

The Dragons might be tempted to hang on to battling coach Paul McGregor until the end of the season to secure a "far cheaper pay-out", Nine NRL reporter Danny Weidler says.

McGregor could coach his final game for St George Illawarra against the Eels on Friday, according to some reports, with a board meeting next week to decide his fate. The Mole reported on Tuesday that McGregor's manager had been summoned to meet with the club this week.

Yet Weidler said that the Dragons, all but out of finals contention with seven games remaining, had a strong financial incentive finish the season with McGregor. The coach survived a potential axing in June, amid reports that a $1 million severance would be required and the club could not afford such a pay-out.

Either way, McGregor is extremely unlikely to see out the final year of his contract as Dragons coach next season.

Dragons coach Paul McGregor. (AAP)
"I don't think he'll be the coach there next year ... but whether they get rid of him now, it doesn't make financial sense for the club in a lot of ways because if he can last until November, there's a far cheaper pay-out for the Dragons and we know we're in a difficult financial time," Weidler said on 100% Footy.

"I guess the only reason for him to go early would be planning. That would be the only reason.

"But I don't think he'll be coach next year. Whether his exit is as early as this week, that's been talked about.

"I know there's a board meeting next Tuesday and obviously Mary's future will be on the agenda, as it has been previously. It makes more sense to say goodbye to him in November."

The Dragons face a headache over the coaching position for next season.

Assistant coach Shane Flanagan, the Cronulla premiership winner, is their preferred option but still barred from a head coaching role in 2021. Another leading option, former Dragons forward Craig Fitzgibbon, has confirmed that he will see out his commitment as a Sydney Roosters assistant.

Current Dragons assistant Dean Young, the 2010 premiership hero, may take on a season-long caretaker role.

"I'd like to see Shane Flanagan back coaching a first grade side but I don't think he's going to get a reduction in his penalty. There doesn't seem to be a strong appetite [among NRL officials] for that to happen," Weidler said.

"Shane's future might depend a bit on what Paul McGregor does. If he's gone, he (Flanagan) went there to be with McGregor.

"It might mean Flanagan has to go somewhere else; maybe like a Bulldogs, for instance, who have got a new coach (Trent Barrett)."

The Dragons may opt to delay under-fire coach Paul McGregor’s sacking until the end of the season for financial reasons and it could affect Shane Flanagan’s future at the club.

Phil Rothfield reported the Dragons Round 14 clash with the Eels will be Mcgregor’s last, but Danny Weidler believes waiting until the end of the season makes more financial sense.

“I don’t think he’ll be the coach there next year ... but whether they get rid of him now, it doesn’t make financial sense for the club in a lot of ways because if he can last until November, there’s a far cheaper payout for the Dragons and we know we’re in a difficult financial time,” Weidler said on 100% Footy.

“I know there’s a board meeting next Tuesday and obviously Mary’s future will be on the agenda, as it has been previously. It makes more sense to say goodbye to him in November.”

McGregor has won just eight of his last 31 games as Dragons coach and the time has come for a change of direction.

The club legend has won 69 and lost 81 of his 150 NRL games as head coach of the Dragons for a win percentage of 46.0.

However McGregor’s imminent departure could have repercussions for assistant Shane Flanagan’s future at the club.

Flanagan came to the club to join forces with McGregor and his head coaching ban doesn’t expire until 2022.

Whether he wants to stay on under an incoming coach on a multi-year deal is up in the air, according to Weidler.

Yet another false hope, Club won’t do anything that is remotely considered logical, let alone radical or innovative. We will go into 2021 with same coach & a weaker roster and will continue to make up the numbers. This whole idea on Flanno as a saviour for 2022 is a joke...

He will not be here in 2021....Will more than likely see out the year dependent on payout and if a deal can be struck with his management....

I reckon you’re on the money Smarty, as usual.
I think they’ll tell him next week that his contract will be terminated come seasons end & he’ll be paid out for the final year. How L plate takes this who knows.
I wouldn’t put it past him to stand his ground & not take a penny less than his full pay knowing that he’ll never coach again in the nrl.

I thought that today was ‘ THE ‘ day that we knew for certain , one way or another , but now it is next Tuesday ? Why then did Dill Rothchild suggest that the Illawarra golden boy would have his last match this Friday ?

Good lawd cannot these media scoundrels stop turning the screw on the torture rack as the pain of it all is beginning to be too much.

All I will say is sack the beggar as quickly as possible or the Dragons will continue to pay , perhaps not in dollar terms , but certainly with our young Dragons leaving this misery of a J.V to greener pastures that will leave the Dragons bankrupt in terms of talent .

Dean Young has been part of every overhaul since McGregor started his tenure.
Hornby got the flick but Young should've as well.
Caretaker for a whole year?
Then what? Is the Board going to try and sell Young as the next FG coach?
Look at his mentors in the coaching department.
We need a proper coach and there is plenty to choose from if Flanagan doesn't get a reprieve.
1. Fitzgibbon
2. Toovey
3. Ryles
4. Wane
Just to name a few.
They need to get serious about the coaching appointment and not waste time with a Dean Young appointment.

Coaching options.

I doubt many practising nrl coaches are available for next year, but come 2022:

Craig Bellamy
Wayne Bennett
Steve Geogalis
Josh Hannay
Des Hasler
Justin Holbrook
Madge Maguire
John Morris
Todd Payten
Seibs ( likely)

source: zt

So I am thinking a transitional coach for the balance of this year and/or next to institute a proper de-maryfication program.

If the club is patient, there’s at least 5 quality coaches who could be snapped up pretty quickly this year for the 2022 plus show.

I think the club needs a builder like Holbrook, whose at least managed to show something and no doubt had a hand in the Fifita Fiasco, a massive scalp.

But I’d slum it for a year to bring a Bellamy or Hasler on board.

My expectation is a panic though. They can’t do anything until Mary goes. Like an alco has to appreciate they have a problem before they do anything about it.

If Mary is told he will no longer be required next year, he might spit the dummy and walk out.

His ego will bug him about that. He cannot stand being stomped on. He even banned the signs remember. Our Mary is very sensitive.

My thoughts tonight anyway.

The guy who served as Nathan Browns recruiter last year, he can start tomorrow.

Craig Bellamy- if you have to ask the price you can't afford it. Bellyache will be a one club man as a coach, just as he was as a player.
Wayne Bennett- possible, but he's hardly smoking up the comp with the sharpest backline this side of the Roosters.
Steve Geogalis- stand-in coach at best.
Josh Hannay- likewise
Des Hasler- how can they attract him from Manly? With huge dollars, which I doubt they can afford.
Justin Holbrook- will be secured by the Titans
Madge Maguire- Worse than Mary. I hate to think of the effect on Tigers fans if he left them for greener pastures.
John Morris- Seems secure in his current gig.
Todd Payten- Cowboys
Seibs ( likely)- worse than Mary, and needs a year off at least to count his payout and drink himself stupid after this year.

I'll toss one in.....Griffin.
