His failures (apart from an inability to coach)
...are about his inability to control pressure
(most obviously at the tail end of seasons - and supported absolutely in his personally supplied stats)
You can see pressure as either a threat or a challenge.
...and Andrew’s Waterboy sees threats everywhere, as evidenced in his defeatist self-fulfilling ‘strategies’, rotations, selections, deflections, excuses, pressers & inane utterances across the board
all reflecting an absence of control of the mind, of processes, of himself & men
He ticks every box of the choker syndrome & coaching failure in the sports psychology handbook.
This struggler is not bright
I thought he wasn’t too bright either but on reflection this evening:
* he’s pulled the wool over the boards eyes for years. They still worship the ground he works on. No sign of any tangible Mary exit strategy.
*people readily follow the reams of illogical bullshit he utters. Gullible, ignorant, sad. He takes advantage of their belief.
* he gets a mate to interfere with a review and keeps his job
* he’s on full pay in a global pandemic. He’s made millions out of sgi for failing and they keep paying him. Every last cent. No performance actually required. If the team actually starts winning that could raise expectations and be too “comfortable” for him. Then he loses his edge.
* he’s knifed scores of people without any issues. They just “ disappear”. No one calls him out lest they disturb his powerful friends. Price is still bleeding.
* he’s still the darling boy of most of the media. They are a cowardly and meek lot. Always apologetic and humble. Like he’s some kind of rugby league mother Teresa. The salvos are given more challenging questions.
* he keeps up the pretence he can coach. Why change? It’s all going too well.
* he employs hippies and bullshitting corporate mates who aren’t accountable and nobody know why they are here because the side is still ( sadly) losing
*goes overseas on a junket after the worst season in living memory and no one says anything. Comes back spruiking corporate pyscho babble and no one belts into him. He gets a pat on the back and mill ward gets drunk and signs Issac Luke in triumph in the signing of the decade. All the good youngsters are noted but never get a game v busted journeymen.
*2nd worst coach in the history of the game and still has a job
* loses marquee players and destroys origin reps every year. Friz belts him up in press conferences, everybody looks the other way. Donut still wants Friz back. That’s just humiliating. He should never have left.
* totally unaccountable and blames everybody.
*has a premiership coach doing his bidding
* loses key players to injuries in the meaningless pre season and gets a pat on the back. No explanation required. It was just bad luck.
* top players gladly sing his praises when asked. Not a milkshake in sight. They line up to help him.
*gets to be concerned about Fittler and no one tells him Fittler is 100% right.
* dissenters are stopped from attending games. Anti Mary voices are silenced.
* gets the new ceo to mention coaching changes - lol. 49 days of pandering to commander Mary.
There is no person in the history of the game less able than McDonut to coach at the elite level.
By rights he shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near an nrl ground without an escort.
Mary is a (evil) genius.
But let’s face it, in a world designed to reward those who stomp all over each other, Mary is a legend.
He’s the dopers trip of self centred achievement.
When’s it over, he does a book deal and does the lecture circuit. He will be in high demand from ceos who aren’t performing. He will change their lives!
