Someone in the club needs to make a very tough decision and tap him in the shoulder and suggest he looks to England. He just does not cut it in the NRL today, and it is time we sure up our future. That means getting Clydesdale more starting time (can't do that with Gidley at captain) and we need to use his income under the salary cap to go out to the market.

Bennett is the right guy to re-build under, but can he make the tough, unpopular decisions?

I agree but the hardest thing for Bennett is will the board back him to do it, he will cop public backlash for decision required to turn us around and when smith was charged with making these calls the board backed him, Bennett doesn't even know who the board will be next week let alone if they will back him for those calls next year.

A positive arising from the ownership issues is that Mids should get the tap, therefore Gids might be easier to move on.

Clutching at straws much............

The board made such a decision around 15 years ago to punt a legend of the club, to send him overseas at an age where he still feasibly had a few years left.

If they can do it to Matt Johns, they can do it to Kurt Gidley.

Random question really with Tinks pulling out of the club are his representatives still sitting on the Board in the meantime?

That and the fact that our captain and one of our highest paid players adds absolutely nothing to the team

The top 5-6 paid players would probably be -

Gidley - tries hard but has faded as a player, harsh but pretty much crap
Boyd - did ok for QLD, jerk.....crap

Uate - has been a bit 50/50 over last couple of years, Manly game was classic rocks and diamonds
Snowden - again 50/50, a week to week proposition when he should be the pack leader

Mullen - solid
Scott - solid

Mullen and Scott are going pretty good and earning their keep.

Gidley will always give 100% but has serious liabilities, to the point where his place in the team is under question. The rest of the list isn't very inspiring.

When you look at a team like the dogs (Graham, Reynolds, Ennis) or Storm (big three), you see some of their top paid players in key positions (leaders) that are solid or up for the fight every week. That must filter through to training etc - it's a positive knowing that your guns always perform or at least are in the thick of the action. The knights must go to training and some of the players on average wage probably are not 100% confident in some of their onfield leaders.

They didn't sack Matty, just offered him $200k when he wanted $400k+.

They might have to make Gids strength and conditioning coach or something.

I seem to recall johns saying that he would play for half the salary he was currently on but the club said no. I could be wrong, however that is my memory of the situation.

How does he keep his spot? As bad as the team has been as a whole I don't think there's been a worse player across the NRL this entire season.

I don't know why we are being made to suffer through his continued existence in our team. It's upsetting at this point.

I was in favour of him getting an extended crack at hooker to allow a chance to get used to it but it's well and truly over now. He's done. So embarrassing today, the whole comp is laughing at him.

I don't think he has ever thrown a clean crisp pass from DH that has hit his target perfectly. It's always wobbly, too far behind or too far in front.

When some blokes hit the wall I couldn't care less. But Kurt has always had plenty of heart so to me it's a bit sad knowing the end must surely be getting close.

Put him on the fitness or rehab staff or something. He might even be a decent mentor for the kids - certainly got plenty out of his career for a bloke punching above his weight.

I haven't been one to participate in one of these #sack(insert name here) threads but my god, it is most definitely time to put Kurt out to pasture

The more the season goes on the more I think that we are missing Bedsy the most - as we've been wondering all year why our attack isn't firing, as the forward pack hasn't changed that much

I have resisted this cause too Serc but his performance today has united just about every Knights supporter now. I simply can't defend the bloke anymore
