I honestly think we need to move Roberts to bench hooker and bring in an at least solid halfback. He is just not cutting it creativity wise at halfback and fails to take pressure of Mullo.

For this to happen we need Gids to move on though and that is very unlikely to happen

I feel the same but unfortunately even solid, not brilliant halfbacks are extremely difficult for even the clubs that players actually want to go to, to sign.

I'm happy to persist with Roberts while there's no other realistic options available that are better than what we already have. I wouldn't say he's a bad player. He does have a good little set of skills that I don't think we're utilising well at the moment. We want to grind teams down and his skill set certainly isn't compatible with that. It plays to Mullen's strengths but not Roberts'.

Just out of curiosity would love to know what our record looks like both with and without Gidley since Wayne took over

Cuthbo has been our best all year outside of Beau. To think he was so derided when he first arrived. He is a truly classy player. Absolutely we should sign him and now. He has worked his arse off and saved a career that looked dead a few years back at Cronulla. He is further proof of how shite a coach Stuart is. It is always the player's fault. Never his coaching. Cuthbo funnily enough never had form issues at Manly or the Dragons.

That and the fact that our captain and one of our highest paid players adds absolutely nothing to the team

The thing is... when we win with Gidley, it's usually because he has taken a back seat and is doing the bare minimum. i.e we look more effective the less he touches the ball.

He is detrimental to the team in every single way. I still can't believe the missed goal... it was just such a spectacular f**k up.

Worst part is he's fallen out of favour with NSW too :sarcasm:

Come on NSW he tries hard.

You don't really have to rate big in any of those stats to be a good hooker... it's misleading trying to claim he's not performing because of that.

I agree with you, he's shit... but it's his service from dummy half that still leaves so much to be desired. Our halves don't get quality ball when Gids is out there... there is often indecision or confusion from those around him. I feel like the worst thing Gids brings to the team is his lack of mental fortitude. I look at him as the absolute archetype of us losing our bundle when something goes wrong. He far too often walks the victim route, rather than trying to be the bigger man and getting on with things. This has been the case for many, many years... and it definitely has an effect on the rest of the team.

In even simpler terms, the guy just isn't a winner anymore... and only ever was for a brief couple of years in the middle of his career.

I just had to shake my head last night when early on in the game Gidley went to run out of dummy half, then stopped and threw and awful ball to mullo that landed on the ground a few metres in front of mullo. Mullo had to wait for it to get to him, losing any momentum gained from running out of dummy half.

Gidley just doesn't know what he's doing.

It wasn't the missed goal that got to me. It was the fact he didn't kick the ball dead that made my blood boil. I really hope he simply didn't strike it well, as opposed to not being aware of how important kicking the ball dead was. If the latter is true, then he's a moron.

It pains me to see how well we play with Clydsdale on only to see it vanish when Gidley comes on.

Just glad he's still with the club for another year or two and that Gidley's time is almost up.
