Sad News

In my travels recently I came across some sad news.
As I am always talking about everything sharks & asking questions, a particular players name came up in convo.
It seems that this fellow is gravely ill. Gravely.
I have seen him around the traps of northen NSW before however I have never met him. Well I did, when i was a kid.
I am not sure if this information is being held back or if people just don't know.
If anybody here knows anybody at the club, would they be able to let the club know or find out even if the club knows.
The guy was a member of the 73's and the great 78's.
He scored a try in the 73 GF.
His name is Rick Bourke.
I will see if I can find out some more info. I do have some which I dont know whether to release at this stage.

I've known about it for a while, last few months. As far as I remember, it was posted on the forums some time ago? Or it was in the Leader somewhere?

Not too sure, but it was made semi-public a little while ago.

Best of luck Bourkey...

Oh no!!!
Legend of Cronulla Sutherland. He was really young in that 1st grand final when he played on the wing. He was fullback for the 2nd grand final. Always liked him as a person and player. Any information would be a wonderful thing Reefy. Don't know what he ales of but I wish him and his family all the best.

rick bourke came through cronulla s golden era and was in an endeavour high side that contained greg mullane and many other good players, his younger brother mick, dave chamberlin, johnny glossop, noel provan and co, followed a year or so behind.

he has been crook since before the season began and the club is aware of his illness.

this is sad news for those who have followed the club , his try in the 73 grand final will bring back many great memories.

evryones thoughts will be with him as he battles this disease.

I remember the thread being posted some time back about Rick Bourke being ill.

Rick played in the 73 grand final and scored our only try. He was a second half replacement and was fullback.
p-71.jpg

Pic shows a concerned Rogers looking after Bourke after being clipped on his way to the line. I think Lurch O'Neil might of got him with a swinging arm. Manly's winger Max Browne arrived to late. Ref Keith Page is in the process of awarding Rick his Grand Final Try. Ray Corcoran is celebrating in the background.
Try Scored halfway between the sideline and post on the paddo end of the SCG.

And a bloody great try it was too. I saw it from the Hill. Ahhh the memories.

Rick replaced the injured Warren Fisher at halftime. Rick was around when it became part of the game where a lot of the good looking league blokes were into modelling and he, with his surfie looks often appeared in ads in mags and papers modelling clothes etc.

I know a lot of the old blockheads could not believe that players were actually modelling things... crikey.

I don't know of his health status today, but heres hoping all the best for a bloke that has given me great life long memories.

Cheers

If my info is correct, he had some improvement for a while since last year. I went OS for 2 months on the day I found out so I forgot about that original thread although it was well known long before then that he was sick.
From waht I hear at the moment though, it is very grave, and sad.
On the bright side, we heard the same about piercey a couple of years ago & he is still swinging.

Brain tumors are nasty .
I lost a great mate last year to one , he fainted at the races and 4 months later he passed away.
The doctors gave him 4 months to live when first diagnosed.

There is/was a doctor in WA who had experimental cure for cancer .
He would put the patient in a machine that sent radio waves through their bodies.
He was literally a miracle worker.
he saved 100's of lives and was on a current affair quite a lot lately.
The Government and more to the point the medical fraternity wouldn't give him funding and he eventually had
to retire.
His lifes work is now void.
The reason being they couldn't figure out how he healed people.
So there for it mustn't work.
f**king idiots.
My mate was planning to see this Dr but got too sick to travel.

yes that case is a disgrace on australian medicine Carch. Seems like the tall poppies didn't want to be shown up. Dr. Holt saved a lot of people and you would think that it would have gone a long way in his favour.
Disgraceful Decision.

I went to school with his sister (yep, Endeavour High as it was in those days). A strong hard-tackling winger who was a real crowd favourite. All the best, Rick.
