Because I'm a little bored ...

Is there a particular song that makes you feel sad? What I mean is, the song is obviously a sad song - be it the music itself or the lyrics or both - but genuinely transmits that emotion across to you every time you hear it?

It occured to me a few minutes ago while I was listening to Mad Season's 'Above' (great album). For me the song is:

Mad Season - Wake Up

'Crying' by Roy Orbison was the saddest, until a few years ago following the death of a close friend of mine. Time for a tale...

He was only 23, we'd been friends since the age of 11. He got drunk one night, suffered a seemingly innocuous fall, and died. A few days later, still struggling to come to grips with it all, I found myself up late watching Mulholland Drive. In the movie the two girls go to theatre and a woman comes on stage to sing a Spanish a cappella version of Roy O's 'Crying'. I bawled my fkn eyes out, and now whenever I hear the song I always think of Luke and the tears always flow.

'Llorando', by Rebekah Del Rio. Sad sad sad sh!t.

To The Moon and Back - Savage Garden (not really a sad song but it is to me since it was my friend's fave song at the time when she died)

Mothers of the Disappeared by U2 is a truely sad and haunting song.

Midnight, our sons and daughters
Were cut down and taken from us
Hear their heartbeat
We hear their heartbeat

In the wind we hear their laughter
In the rain we see their tears
Hear their heartbeat
We hear their heartbeat

Night hangs like a prisoner
Stretched over black and blue
Hear their heartbeat
We hear their heartbeat

In the trees our sons stand naked
Through the walls our daughters cry
See their tears in the rainfall

Do yourself a favour and buy The Joshua Tree (or download the song.)

Love is Blindness also by U2 off Achtung Baby is quite sad as is One.

Gone Away by The Offspring

I'd be pretty upset if I was listening to any of that too ...
