Salary Cap

Good to read some positive comments. Now that everything is out in the "open" and the current Board and management are addressing the errors of the past we can look forward to starting the 2016 season with a clean slate and a much stronger playing roster. Meanwhile I believe we will still finish strongly this year albeit with 2nd tier salary cap restrictions -- it's an ill wind that doesn't blow some good -- plenty of opportunities for certain players to be in the right place at the right time.

No, it was also 2014.

The NRL said the main issue was NRL and NYC cap issues 2010 to 2013....

The 2014 cap was screwed as a result of 2013 flicks.

For what it is worth, givem the penalty we just copped, and the penalty Storm and Dogs copped in the past, EVERY club should cheat.
Why wouldnt you? Cheat to get the best talent. Just dont hire SK to find the talent for you.....

I would think that going to the NRL and saying 'there's a problem with our reporting of cap obligations' is pretty much doing that.
Yes, but going by the NRL statement after doing that they should have taken the advice the NRL gave them and we we pretty much wouldn't have a problem now would we? That's a pretty silly thing to do is it not?

It seems most of the damage was done by the cleanout and those cut were on over inflated contracts but surely considering the impact it was going to have on our cap the smart thing to do would have been to just let them all see out their contracts. I know it would have cost us performance wise but f##k me it's not like we would be performing any worse is it.

At the end of the day no one forced Sharp and his management into releasing those players early and copping the hit on our cap last year, that was the current board's decision and no one else's. I think they were too eager for a quick fix and didn't understand the consequences and that is why it was totally mismanaged.

It's this type of constant mismanagement which has been apparent in all our amateur boards that makes it hard for me to be so positive about the future, we seem to bestuck in ground hog day.

Depends. On the one hand, previous board and coaches mismanaged the shit out of the cap, and as a result we had breaches of all four salary caps due to payments to players sacked while under contract and the resulting overspend in the NRL and second tier cap. Because of this mismanagement, we must now prove to the NRL that we can in fact manage a salary cap by Feb next year, however we are not over the cap for 2015.

On the other hand, the world is ending and we need to sack everybody and basically give up on being an NRL club for the rest of time because everyone ever involved with the club past or present is incapable of ever being competent in any way shape or form so why bother

I think, anyway

We have been mismanaging our cap (NRL, NRL second tier and NYC) with our top notch management between 2010 and 2013.

The way I read it is that we went to the NRL at the end of 2013 and in 2014 we went over the cap for the second tier players and because we'd f**ked it in 2010, 11, 12, 13 and then 14 they decided to get pissed and fine us.

It was not cheating it was mismanagement. Most of the players that caused the issue didn't even play for us.

Now everyone is going batshit crazy because they said we should just say f**k you to the NRL last year to debut the likes of Moeroa and worry about the fine when it happened, but now it's happened, we must blame everyone we possibly can.

2015 and beyond are fine, these are all retrospective and the NRL are doing what they should and make an example out of us!

You may well be right, but at this stage we don't know what the form of the NRL advice (during 2014 re 2nd tier) was, and apparently the club disputes part of the alleged breach (see Gronk's link to Seward video).

Sharp certainly has been the Chair since 2013. For most of that year, though, he was working with an executive team that are no longer there for reasons that related to alleged misbehaviour (dunno how that eventually played out).

I'm not fanboy, I was one of the blokes quite uncomfortable with the banning of B Smith from running in this election.

But, as far as I can deduce from a great distance, the current board inherited systemic problems with our cap management that will take time to flush out. Those problems are not limited to players cut, but include committed salaries beyond player's apparent value.

As far as I know, I've never met anyone who has ever played for the club, or had a role in administering it. Just calling it as I see it. I don't have a magic bullet, but I sure as hell know what won't fix the club.

There's an idea. Class action lawsuit against the NRL for failing in their duty of care to us as Eels fans!

Yes, the Ron Burgundy approach. Perhaps Sharpie could photocopy his arse and put the message in a Moon Pig thank you card incorporating the photo and message.

 You replied to me first today Chief. You are the one who criticises anyone who has anything negative to say about the club no matter what the circumstances. If Charles Manson was in charge of recruitment you would be waving your poms poms for him. Go Parra!!!

You would too, he brought all the chicks in who all loved looking after the boys and most were stunners too.
Best you pick the right battles bro.
Considering how important felines are to you, you don't wanna cut off the hand that feeds you pussy.
