Another reason why I'm glad to have seen the backs of the previous administration.

Meanwhile their cheer squad are going off on twitter calling for the entire board to step down.

FMD Spags was at the root of all of this - and he's an accountant !

You may well be right, but at this stage we don't know what the form of the NRL advice (during 2014 re 2nd tier) was, and apparently the club disputes part of the alleged breach (see Gronk's link to Seward video).

Sharp certainly has been the Chair since 2013. For most of that year, though, he was working with an executive team that are no longer there for reasons that related to alleged misbehaviour (dunno how that eventually played out).

I'm not fanboy, I was one of the blokes quite uncomfortable with the banning of B Smith from running in this election.

But, as far as I can deduce from a great distance, the current board inherited systemic problems with our cap management that will take time to flush out. Those problems are not limited to players cut, but include committed salaries beyond player's apparent value.

As far as I know, I've never met anyone who has ever played for the club, or had a role in administering it. Just calling it as I see it. I don't have a magic bullet, but I sure as hell know what won't fix the club.
Wasn't suggesting you were a fanboy, was just having a discussion on the facts as they have been presented so far without the blinkers or politics. No doubt the current board inherited systemic problems from the previous mob of rats, no argument about that, my only concern is when are they going to stop compounding the problems. Not interested in looking back but would dearly love to just move forward without repeating the same mistakes.

Yes, but going by the NRL statement after doing that they should have taken the advice the NRL gave them and we we pretty much wouldn't have a problem now would we? That's a pretty silly thing to do is it not?

Isn't that what they've been doing and therefore the reason we are under the cap this year and next, or do you think it's just a matter of the admin clicking its fingers and we'll be under?

if you watch the vid of Seward on the Parra site he seems to think a lot of what the NRL wanted to happen couldn't be done because of contractual law

No it's clearly not what they were doing
NRL chief executive Dave Smith says Parramatta were repeatedly warned they were in danger of breaching the salary cap last year but ignored that advice, leaving the governing body no alternative but to issue them with a heavy sanction on Thursday.

...they said the club had been warned on multiple occasions last year not to play particular players because of pending cap breaches and that advice was ignored

The most annoying aspect of the breaches are yet to come. You just know we're going to have to put up with post after post about it for years by those wishing to score points. And the terminally unhappy.

I'm a little lost here...

BA towards the end of his press conference this morning confirmed to the reporters question that we have reached the 2nd tier cap limit for the season. http://eels.co/1AmzOoB

So, payments for players outside Top 25 is $440,000, which is roughly 5 and a bit players on minimum wage. Essentially then you're really allowed to use 30 players in a season.

This season so far we have used 25 players as follows
1. Will Hopoate
2. Semi Radradra
3. Beau Champion
4. Brad Takairangi
5. Reece Robinson
6. Corey Norman
7. Chris Sandow
8. Darcy Lussick
9. Nathan Peats
10. Tim Mannah
11. Manu Ma'u
12. Tepai Moeroa
13. Anthony Watmough
14. Isaac De Gois
15. Joseph Paulo
16. Junior Paulo
17. David Gower
18. Danny Wicks
19. John Folau
20. Ryan Morgan
21. Peni Terepo
22. Bureta Faraimo
23. Richie Fa'aoso
24. Pauli Pauli
25. Luke Kelly

So does that mean that we have 5 players currently inside our Top 25 who we have yet to use this season?

Am I missing something here?

Mate, to release a player we sometimes have to carry some of their freight for the duration of the original contract. While I understand that we are not paying any of Kelepi's Cowboys contracts (this might be wrong) we are definitely paying nearly $100k for Loko (though he is no longer in our top 25) and enough of Lee Mossop that he too counts in the 2nd tier.

Do the sums, if Loko at nearly $100k isn't in our top 25 then our minimum wage isn't the $77,500 set by the NRL and it wouldn't take long to spend the $440k ($340k if you take out Loko) before breaching.

We are the laughing stock of the NRL. Hopeless previous administration. Horrible Talent identification for close to 30 years. Just a complete basket case for years. Always, (apart from last year) at the bottom of Holden cup and the NRL and over the past couple of years we have slipped terribly at NSW cup level, yet we went over the cap in ALL three grades! We get a really good young coach into the club in Holbrook and he leaves us after one (very good) year. Nothing to defend here, although I'm sure the "oh things arent that bad" mob will try.

From the latest News Ltd take on the story:

"THE Parramatta Eels repeatedly ignored NRL warnings last year that they were in danger of breaching the salary cap.

Week after week and even as early as round one, coach Brad Arthur kept picking players knowing he was over the second-tier cap."

http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/parramatta-salary-cap-scandal-club-fined-over-half-a-million-dollars-for-breaches/story-e6frf3tc-1227362519158

So......we potentially were in breach of the 2nd tier cap (which is the only one that is affected by who you pick to play) in Week 1. Which suggests very directly that the source of the problem was commitments made in previous years (assuming we were not playing 5 2nd tier players in Round 1). Or, of course, the journo could be pulling shit out of his arse.

Not to nit pick, but that reads as though it pertains to warnings about second tier breaches. The NRL cap breach would have happened regardless of who we picked in first grade, surely? Unless it is in regards to match payments, but even that would have been hard to avoid given injuries etc.

Ultimately, I'd rather the club breached the second tier cap if needed and tried to do well than packed it in. Even the NRL realises the second tier cap is essentially meaningless in and of itself, sides have to field 17 players...our issue is the gross mismanagement of salaries across the board.
