Not sure how the NRL can include any payout to Hoppa in our cap. A valid NRL contract is different to a damages payout (or what ever term it is).

Under the NRL rules, Hoppa doesn't have a valid contract with the eels as it was never registered (or signed, and probably exact details not yet confirmed). Hoppa is arguing (I think) our process prevented him from getting a decent contract so wants a damages payout.

I doubt the NRL will able to include any amount paid out in the cap as even if Hoppa wins as there is still no contract between the eels / Hoppa. Is the NRL going to go down the path any payouts to players awarded by the courts (yes I know it's rare) must now be included in the cap ?

Obviously it would be different if the court said there is a valid NRL contract between eels / Hoppa. But then the eels could force Hoppa to return to the club.

The Telecrap just made the statement to put more shit on the eels.

Does anyone think the eels would of seeked advice from the NRL, about any such payouts going towards the cap????

Since the pending hoppa court case we signed jenko. If any payouts were going towards the cap, surely the NRL would of informed us, if we are indeed found guilty.

There was talk of the Gold Coast players suing the Titans for being stepped down for cocaine charges. Isn't some players suing the Sharks for the peptides saga ? Obviously these cases may have just been talk. But if they did occur and damages were awarded to the players against the club, would these amounts be included under the cap? They would just be "damage" payouts just like Hoppa's case against their clubs "process".

After reading that article, does anyone find it weird why our local plumber didn't self report these issues that are now being exposed?

Awaiting the plumbers power rangers.....

I think this sounds far worse than the other article.

If there is a minute purporting to intervene to secure third parties that would seem to be an intent to breach.

But surely these figures are the amounts that we eventually breached by and have therefore been taken into account by the nrl?

It beggars belief that that nrl have conducted an investigation into our breaches and also our governance but have not seen these minutes?

Yep fair enough you may have a point about the board.

But gee that article is crap. There is nothing in it that is "explosive". So the board discuss TPA, so what !! Isn't that their job to ensure they are sourced? And we ensure that players receive any they have signed? Seems like good practice actually.

And what is the problem with Smith getting a TPA paid ?

And finally gee the Telecrap are a bunch of f**ken grubs!! There is no issue with the Hayne payment, it has always been suggested the club / TPA were being paid to him last year. The only reason his name is mentioned is as a "click bait"!!

Nothing article.

And which grub is leaking this info????

I think the issue is that the club can't be seen or they can't organise any TPA's. They can't be involved whatsoever.

I believe if the club does organise the TPA and its caught doing so then that whole amount would now come under the cap. That's the risk.

Yeah I would've thought that these docs would've been picked up by the auditors or the NRL. Or even been self reported by our honest chairman.

That may be the case, but then why didn't the Dogs get f**ken audited over the Fifita contract debacle ?? He negotiated a contract with them for X dollars which he agree to but when he went to sign the contract, a substantial amount was made up of TPA? So obviously these were sourced by the club.

And what about Mr Nick give Hayne a car, would this be investigated if Hayne signed with the Roosters? Of course not!! And we all know the roosters / Broncos ability to get players - yeah but the club doesn't source their TPA? Bull shit of course they do!!

If my company approaches the club's corporate sales team to discuss potential sponsorship and the club says "you do have the option of becoming a TPA provider - please contact (insert player managers name) if you would prefer to go down that path... blah blah blah" is this against the rules?

My read of the above article is that it could have simply been a discussion between Board and COO (Boulous) along those lines.

“The board noted that for 2014 there is in the order of $589k in TPA’s (sic) plus 2 cars that are outstanding and need to be secured. (Eels director Peter) Serrao questioned the option of securing commercial revenues and J. Boulous confirmed currently the corporate team are focused on sourcing sponsorship. The board discussed the fact that there needs to be a clear determination as to whether a sponsor wants to be a corporate partner or TPA provider.”

Have no real idea, but I always thought the club could help source them but they couldn't guarantee them.

That's what I thought.

Me too. The club can directly arrange MPAs (marquee player agreements) and introduce TPAs.

Annesley says Titans decided to “leave Cherry-Evans alone” and that they had no reason to check in with their star signing, though they were in constant contact with his manager Gavin Orr as the club organised third party deals for Cherry-Evans.
