With regards to the docking of points - I would have thought the NRL could only do that if it was determined that the side we currently field is in breach of the cap - thereby creating an unfair competition.

Apart from the Watmough issue, this relates to previous years so not sure how it could be justified to deduct points this year. It happened to the Storm where they lost points and continued not playing for points but that was because the side they were fielding each week was in breach. That does not seem to be the case here.

Having said that - it would be silly if they took points off our previous seasons so I think we are screwed. I would be happy to keep points this year and be told the records will be amended to show we have the spoon for the last few years.
And regarding the Watmough issue... he hasn't played this year, and could very easily not play again this year. Making it all a non-issue as far as points deductions relating to our "current" squad.

Why would it matter that he is injured? He is part of our squad and thus part of our current years salary cap.

True, but if he hasn't played (and doesn't play) then any concern about the arms length nature of his TPA is not an advantage to us. It's actually a disadvantage under the circumstances, because we'd still have to pay him out of the cap but haven't been able to use him in our squad.

The effect is almost the same as the Roosters "underspending" their cap by $600K waiting for Jarryd!

If Watmough had played any/every games this season, then sure - we might be looking at points deduction re assembly of our current squad. But if Watmough drops off (with full pay for the season), then... meh.

Nope.

Warriors pay price for salary cap rorting
Posted 27 Feb 2006, 7:05pm

The New Zealand Warriors have been stripped of four competition points and fined $430,000 for breaching the National Rugby League's salary cap.

The NRL board found the Warriors guilty of breaching the salary cap in 2004 and 2005 by making undisclosed player payments worth almost $1 million.

Whilst I'm googling, can I just post this in response to Jake's claim that The Supreme_Leader is a dumb f**k for self reporting ?

The Gold Coast Titans have been fined $300,000 and docked four NRL Competition Points for breaches of the salary cap, the NRL announced today.

The club has had $75,000 of its fine and the loss of the four competition points suspended because it self-reported the breach and co-operated fully with the investigation.

He's no supreme leader he's just a toilet plunger expert lol

Self reporting nearly got us docked 4 points but we eventually conformed to the governance changes.

These latest alleged rorts were not reported by the toilet plunger expert hence why we are being investigated again. Let's hope captain plunger really hasn't put us in the shit this time.

Didn't Watmough come to us a year early, when Manly couldn't afford a backended $900K in the final year of his contract.

So we would have got him cheaper that year (with Manly paying some), but he would have signed onto something higher - and for which we may have sought significant TPA to afford him (and keep signing others after that).

Let's face it, none of us know... but hopefully it's not big enough that the NRL try and somehow come down on us with points deductions for this season (seeing as Watmough isn't playing yet).

If we get done for Watmough's TPA, all we risk is his amount being put on the cap, which can't be too much with Manly tipping in at least half his wage. Maybe a fine, but certainly not a loss of points
