So Manly and Politis (Roosters) can give their respective players apartments and cars but we do it and it counts under the cap?

I don't get it?

Better accountants. ;-)
Would be nice for the auditors at the NRL to go over ALL clubs with a fine tooth comb.

That's because they have proper business contacts not your local mitre 10 plumbers. Business contacts!! You remember that guy Moss he would have been an example of what we needed the obviously our local plumber has turned on him. Burnt all bridges!

Bullshit, it is either illegal or not!

Or the NRL don't really care about those clubs cause they have powerful people in relevant positions?

b/c outside the marquee player allowance, the clubs cannot guarantee the payment of any TPAs. If one is arranged, and then the third party decides not to honour the deal, and the club jumps in an compensates the player for their loss......that has to be assessed under the cap. If one of the Roosters backers defaulted and somehow couldn't be replaced, a similar situation would occur.

The difference is that it appears that many of our third parties were mates of one particular group of individuals, and when there was a change of control at the club they became less keen on continuing to sponsor players. And the new lot didn't have as many friends to give the nudge and wink to.

I know that an off-hand comment was made that perhaps a number of the third party agreements that it is alleged appear to not being paid to players might be related to 'mates' of the previous board deciding not to pay up.

Does anyone know or able to elaborate anything further on this? It appears that the people that the newspapers are indicating are owed third party money (The Plane, Sandclown and Hoppa) were all signed up on contracts by the previous board.

If the owners of Manly supply an apartment to a player, how is that a TPA? I didn't think they could have a current relationship with the club?

My opinion is that the NRL would never want to investigate Manly or the Roosters because they KNOW it would be a can of worms.

They can just pick on the Eels because we are stupid and much easier to fling shit at!

If it is, in fact, the owners of Manly (whatever that means), they can still have a TPA if it is part of the Marquee allowance of $600k (can be spread across as many players as you like...the allowance, not the marquee :) ).

Any other TPAs involving club sponsors or direct associates would be assessed under the cap.

I don't know anything about the case you are referring to. If it is part of the $600k Marquee allowance there's no problem with it. Any club can do that.

Meanwhile, poor Brian Waldron just didn't get what marquee allowances actually meant. ;-)

Storm chief executive Brian Waldon approached a Melbourne businessman to write a letter indicating he was the owner of the Olympic Park match marquee used to siphon funds to players.

Aren't Manly privatised?

Fair enough though, thanks.

Excited?!!!! More like depressed. Everything is going wrong. This is the lowest point in our clubs history. I have never been embarrassed to support the eels before this week. It's an absolute disgrace what's happening. You can point your finger at me and scream "agenda agenda" all you want. But the fact remains we are a complete and utter basket case. We are being destroyed by management, by their absolute unprofessional actions. We don't have to put up with this shit. That's why I'm posting so much.

You can keep defending the current mob all you want but I'll never question your support for this club as I think that everyone that comes on here (especially for people like you and myself that have been on here for 15 YEARS and been members of the club for longer) are the most commited supporters most passionate supporters ever. We both hate what's going but just have different views on how to fix it. Actually I've never heard you come up with a solution to our current mess? Can you offer one?

Please find me all the posts where I am defending the current mob. They've totally f**ked this up like all hell.

You just seem to be going on like a 14 year old who discovered his dad's viagra stash

Apparently they are giving Viagra to men in nursing homes to stop them rolling out of bed.

No worries. Wasn't questioning that.....just don't know the specifics of the TPA you were referring to, and exactly how connected the third party was/is.

Wasn't Tony Williams given an apartment when he was at Manly?

I know City Ford give cars to Players. Who owns them?

Dunno about the Williams stuff, but if he is given an apartment by the club, club sponsors or associates it is counted under the cap (unless it is part of the Marquee allowance).

If City Ford give players cars, I would have thought that they'd be deemed an associate of the club (they are not sponsors anymore) via Politis and the fact that they appear in the Roosters Corporate Directory. Presumably the same rule applies.
