If we are losing 2 quality players in walker and grevsmuhl it's not been worth it. That's on top of losing Stewart and Luke as well with no quality players coming in.
Depth is going to be a huge problem for Souths next year, we will already be fielding the weakest 3 quarter line in the nrl (Johnstone, goodwin, auva'a, oldfield). We've lost luke and off the 2 guys replacing him, 1 is still young and raw (mcinnes) and 1 is a reserve grader (cook, I know he had a handful of good games at the end of the year, but if a guy turning 25 has only played 9 nrl games all up it tells you something). Sam always misses a few games with injury and suspension every year, and with absolutely no depth there will be no one to cover for when he is gone. Sam is a great forward, and gets through a mountain of work, but I think people have been overstating his impact. He isn't the guy who'll win you the tight games in a way that guys like Thurston, cronk, dce or Johnson will, he is more comparable to guys like matt scott and jesse bromwich.
In hindsight it might of been better to let sam have a season with leeds rhinos so we had a year to find a way to fit sam into the team. That way when sam came back he was coming into a competive team. Unfortunately it looks like we will struggle for a few years to try fit him in

I appreciate the fact you acknowledge the downside to all of this. Not many other SS fans do.

Given he was on a million$'s at bath he'd be earning a decent whack, probably tpa though lol.

He's still a good player but needs to refind the spark that union snuffed out in him.

Sam hurt his collarbone attacking the legs of Mitch Moses while Moses was in mid air. After seeing what Brown and especially Carter have been up to smashing kickers while they're in the air, you would have to believe that they're being coached to do so. Brown nearly killed Moses last week and Carter's dog shot on Norman last night was dumb, dangerous but unfortunately not unexpected from him.

I doubt that. Both players are just naturally aggressive. Have you seen any of our other forwards pull shit like that this season besides Carter, who's also a bit of a short fuse?

They're just down on form. Injuries are ruining combinations, we've blooded plenty of rookies (even before the injuries) and our squad is inexperienced.

The team is down on form because of a combination of bad luck, new faces and poor execution and everyone's going berserk.

It's a transition period for us. Not the end of the world.

All Souths fans -" We signed Sam Burgess!!!! Huzzah!! we will release walker, grant, grevhsmuhl, sign a budget hooker, rely on a budget backline and string all our plays together with a ball out the back to a one legged fullback. Will be absolutely fine. Top 4!" R20, Doyen, alien live happily ever after

Most other NRL fans are f**king perplexed at the sheer insanity of the situation but it all makes sense to them.
Wow so eerie how you got this so right! Although it's not rocket science to have known that this was a good chance of happening

GI 800k
Sam 600k I reckon (then lots of TPA's)
AJ 250-300k
Auva'a 350k
Goodwin 220-250k
Oldfield 150k
Gray 250k

George 450k (then TPA's)
Tom 450k (then TPA's)
Reynolds 500k
Keary 500k
McQueen 300k (shopping him around but will have to pay part of contract)
Grant 350k (could be going too)

Cook cheap
McInnes cheap
Carter cheap
Grevsmuhl??????
Sutton cheap (been with Souths so long so costs us pretty much nothing)
Tyrrell cheap
Turner cheap
Clark chea

Brown cheap
C. Walker cheap

Souths are just a bit over. Greenberg has said Souths problem can be fixed quite easily too.

Get rid of McQueen and Grant and we will be right.

We have juniors ready to step up (80k they will get) in Musgrove, Olive, Gosiewski, Whitelaw, Simone.

We also have B. Gray, H. Hunt, Crichton, Goolagong, Murray and Saumamao.

It's good talent coming through.

Souths will be allright jubileeboy.

Isn't the cap 6.8 million in 2016?

Souths probably need to free 200-250k.

having all these cheap players is great! It allows us to sign Sam back. Having all these cheaps players is smart as it allows us to get sam back
But now they are all duds! And need to be sacked. We need to buy better players, seasoned first graders to replace them. Having all these cheap players is now dumb, what was the club thinking

I surprise even myself sometimes!

The lack of quality first grade players, lack of quality depth and throw in the usual injuries and suspensions then all of a sudden instead of being a top 8 certainty the clubs struggling to find wins.

I said ages ago that your recruitment lacked considerable thought and direction. A couple fortuitous signings and some toilers don't make a first grade squad.

Plenty of players on the market soon. Hopefully you can jag some!

I always find it remarkable that R20 knows exactly what each souths player earns, it was very generous of the club to open up their books for him
