Sam Tomkins: coming to an NRL club near you

If you expect him to be somewhere around an average NRL player, say the 8th best halfback in the comp, then you'll be pleased with his performance.

If you expect him to be a marquee that actually earns his wage and plays to his reputation, then you will see he is a massive failure. He should be leading the Warriors to wins but they look likely to win as little or even less games than they did in 2013.

He's hardly been average. The last couple of weeks he has been one of the best fullbacks in the comp.

He wasn't signed as a "marquee" player IMO.

The reason we bought him was because we needed someone better than lock who adds more if a spark ( which he does) and after being 700 thou under the cap for the past few years we had the money to spend, so may as well spend it.

Expecting him to be a superstar simply because he is paid a lot and was a standout in a lower class of league is naive.

The price tag people put on him is seriously inflated by the fact we paid Wigan a million to get him released. It's not like that money went to Tomkins. He's not on a mill a season.

He's improved every week, and really the only thing that held him back a little was that he seemed to come up with a howler a game. Yesterday he didn't do that, so here's hoping that trend will continue as well as his continued improvement.

If you were so consistently under the cap why do you guys manage to lose so many Kiwis to Aussie clubs?

What difference does it matter where the money went if you had to spend it to get him? If it went in his bank account or Wigan's or if you threw it into a wishing well, it's still money that you had, that you don't have now and that got you him.

Aussies.
Not sure if serious...

We lose out on Aussie marquee players all the time due to the lack if willingness to relocate. There's 8? Sydney clubs and it's a heck of a lot easier to move down the road than move countries.

Ask carney and thurston. Two players who we aggressively went after who stayed for less money because they didn't want to move

Are you implying that we "aren't" under the cap?

One of the big reasons tomkins chose to come here was because he hates Aussies

Trolling ??? That was praising him.

He didn't do much other than the try, don't know what game you merkins were watching. It's not hard to be the best Warriors player on the field, whole team is a f**king basket case.

Locke is still better. Disgusting to see him playing NSW cup.

Locke was playing NSW Cup as it was his first game back after a long term knee injury from the World Cup, I imagine he will be in first grade next week, probably on the right wing.

No, it's money that is the equivalent to loose change to the owners. The million they paid to release him is absolutely irrelevant to the financial health of the club, salary cap, or our ability to pay other players, and yet that number is constantly used as justification for death riding.

I don't expect you to understand that, your lack of objectivity is well known, especially on this subject considering how badly you've death rided him since long before he even took the field this season.

ive heard its $750k to wigan and the same to tomkins thats crazy money imo

though according to the Mole Mannering managed to get the warriors to pay him $700k a season as well when he was threatening to leave

the club are a shambles

Oh for f**k sake. Captain Average is barely worth 400k. Would have gladly seen him piss off. This is a massive waste of cap space.

Sigh. I hate being a Warriors fan. Can anybody from Parra ship me some razorblades?

Relax bro it was his fry game back from a pretty serious knee injury, it has nothing to do with Tomkins being in the team. He won't be in nsw cup long that's for sure.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, won't know until at least halfway through the contract.

As for Mannering, not a chance in hell that it's 700k on the cap. Maybe total contract, not not on the cap. Still excess IMO, but not as much as the figure would suggest.

Tomkins already has DOUBLE the number of tries Locke scored all last year for the Warriors

Locke, if he bounces back to something close to what he used to be, is better under the high ball. That's about it, Tomkins is superior in all other facets on, and especially off, the field.

and Locke barely gets to the bloody ball on the full any more anyway so the one advantage he does have is for the most part irrelevant.

LOL@anyone who seriously thinks hes on that coin under the cap. $700k will be what he's on with a lot of corporate top ups I'd imagine. Even then I doubt its $700k.

Locke did his ACL and his first game back was on the weekend. Matty Elliott, and Cappy McFadden, have both said when he's fit he'll be in the team. I'd say he'll play right wing. Locke had a good game in reserve grade FWIW. Townsend got MOM for a classy field goal, but Locke was all over the place.

That's the point, he never was meant to be a leader any more than Barba is, he's meant to finish off enterprising play . . . which has to first be created. We won't know if he can create anything unless he is actually in the halves

Spot on. The way BM and Mr Anonymous are circle jerking contempt on him is baffling - its as if they want him to hit it up, then take a self tap and go from dummy half, then self tap again and go for a cross field bomb, which he catches, and races 60 metres beating 12 players to score.

The Warriors forwards needs to aim up first. For a team where the pack hasn't really delivered, he's been fairly good in my view. Love to see him working off go forward ball and a broken defensive line.

Once the Warriors drop that dunce Dane Nielsen, they will start scoring more tries, and Sam Tomkins will become one of the major try scorers and try assisters in the NRL.

Surely after his last 'performance' we've seen the end of Neilson.

Tomkins has shown all the goods on attack but I'm still not totally convinced about his defence. That said it gets better by the game.

I loved it in the match thread the others day. Some jerk offs was bagging out Tomkins; all the usual ignorant diatribe; then he immediately scores that try- best way to shut up a bunch of no-nothing trolls.
