I think with Watson he has been his worst enemy, created a negative stigma about himself IE. his many excuses why he is failing with the bat, his body language at times, poor use of DRS ...Its all adds up. He isn't being paid peanuts, but has definitely played well below his value, especially last few years.

Im one for being optimistic and hope next 12 months he really delivers something special, kinda like Notch did vs Poms and SA.

No doubt. He has no one else to blame but himself. First impressions and all that. Has been a bit of a wanker so he can't whinge about it. He has to know how the public roll. To his credit, I also think there has been recognition and an effort to change a fair bit of it.
I hope he performs as well. We need it to win, and I love a much maligned, backs to the wall, pulls through the other side story.

Worked all day but watched it all.

The spoilt brat will have better days as skipper, he seemed to run out of ideas but credit to him he never stopped trying things, he'll learn alot from that including what not to do like bowling 4 bowlers in 4 overs. I think he made too many changes to his team.

Watson proved to me he is not a no3, he struggled to get to 30 on a road where everyone else made batting look easy. He should be further down the order. Smith should be at 3 when Clarkey comes back into no 4 for mine.

It was a dominant day for Australia, but dropped catches when rogers had barely started and Watson at the end had a bit to do with it. It might be cliche but catches win matches is cliche for a reason. If we hadn't dropped those catches last test we would have won it.

India would have taken those catches, bowled fiercely and thrown themselves all over the mark... if it was an IPL match

Terrible wicket tbh, even if it deteriorates

Anyone could have scored runs on that wicket - as proven, even Watson can - all that fine form in the nets counting now, flat deck, dead test - he's made for this shit

Did you see the pitch ?

turned a bit for a day 1 pitch and their bowling was pretty terrible so hard to tell till we bowl on it

This is typical Shane Watson, the scene is set perfectly for him.. series over, no pressure, road pitch

I expect him to make a 100 and then carry on about how gutsy it was when really, everything was aligned perfectly for him

You're probably right there.

But then again we all know he could get out for around 80.

Watson batted slow on purpose though. Didn't want to get out.

lol did you watch one minute of the days play?

Yes, and if this wicket was in the UAE and Pakistan had just batted on day 1 you lot would be sooking so hard

Watson really is making a habit of this, whether he's out soon or I get to see long overdue celebrations of a glorious century, it will be special. He really is ok on flat decks with no pressure, have to give him that  That's probably why he's a champion in the nets too

If Watson made 0, he was going to get bagged
If Watson made a fast 100, he was going to get bagged (perfect conditions, dead rubber)
If Watson made a slow 100, he was going to get bagged (perfect conditions, dead rubber, too safe)

Good for him if he gets a ton, agree he shouldn't be at no.3 but runs are runs.

Exactly.
I dispute the no pressure as well. Public humiliation doing the social media rounds all week, media articles every day on his position, every ex cricketer in the country popping up with a Watson opinion, the coach publicly sending a message. If he failed, the short priced favourite was that his test career was gone. I'm thinking he is feeling a little bit of pressure.

Get your hand off it, by your definition, it is a courageous innings by Watson

He seems to be putting more pressure on himself than the public are for what ever reason.

So seeing as its only day 2, and barring a collapse, will we see India bat today?

Unlikely I think. I assume Australia will just try to keep batting until the score is infinity+1000..
