Starting to think there might be a few people on here that know what they are talking about. Well, at least the people who have posted their predictions in this thread...

After we finished 5th last year and brought in Matto and RCG, it wouldn't take an Einstein to figure we would improve a little, but we were still short of the Storm and Roosters level (count the rep players in each of their squads). Between 4th and 6th after a 25 round competition would be about right, behind Roosters, Storm and Raiders and if there was a smokey or two behind them as well. Panthers have turned out to be the smokey no one thought would do as well as they have so far.

Unfortunately, our better than expected start especially once the season restarted, gave some people a deal of false hope and they are now thinking our performance is under par, when in fact it is right where it was expected to be.

Yep. It's awesome that we overachieved at the start of the year, just like we overachieved in 2019. Our great start to the season will likely give us a minimum of two finals matches that we otherwise wouldn't get if we finished outside the four.

We also jagged a top four spot in 2017 despite having only the 7th best points differential.

Lucky draw, under-strength opposition, ref's dodgy calls... lots of things go into having a season where results can mask the actual level of a team when compared to the other 15 teams.

I think, given the panthers are the only team in the top 8 that we have played twice while we played 4 of the bottom 8 twice, we would likely have had top play a few more of those teams had there been a 25 round comp. If our current form continued into those extra games, I think 6th would be the most accurate adjusted position.
However in saying that, having a bye may have helped our team considerably.
However in saying that, without the Covid break, we would have been without Mahoney for several weeks.

So what i'm saying is, who fu**ing knows

- I reckon Matterson will kill it for us.
- W.Blake will be back to his best.
- The new streamlined Alvaro will have an excellent season.
