Season 2023

I think the biggest key to a successful year is Adam Doueihi.
Regardless of returning from injury last year he was very average , particularly playing in the halves . His defence was appalling and so was his attitude when he was called out for it. We all know Brooks isn't always going to ice those moments but Until Adam can stand up and prove he can do better we will just have 2 halves incapable of taking us closer to finals and premiership contention . They showed faith in him over Hastings ,, time to repay the faith 2023 Doueihi

I went from loving Doeuihi to pretty much wanting him gone from the club in the space of 4 weeks. Never seen a turn around in attitude like that from a player. Hoping he can redeem himself in 2023.

@Tigerm . I think they will be looking towards Laurie as 1st in the halves if injury comes along. After that perhaps a Sheenius move from left field as I'm not sure with have to many ready in lower grades to step up, maybe Camroux but not sure he has progressed much in the last few years.

Sheens has given Jahream Bula a big wrap saying he’s putting pressure on Laurie and Staines for fullback. Certainly an amazing athlete and moves beautifully, I’ve always thought he was more of a centre/winger though. I think he’s still only 19

Just watched the clip, looks good. But wait until people in front of him try to tackle him..

Absolutely, I think we can take Flegg highlights with a grain of salt. The Wests Tigers 2021 Flegg side was undefeated after 9 rounds when they abandoned the comp, the week before it shut down they put 40 on the second placed Panthers. Only 2 of those guys have NRL contracts today. More just commenting on his athletic build and the way he moves. We haven’t had an exciting outside back coming through our juniors since Moses Suli back in 2016 so it won’t take much for one of these kids to look good.

According to this story on the NRL webb site our top 30 roster is full. I thought we had room for one more.
If true Silverdale will be devastated after getting such solid inside information that Woods joining us.

The one a few days ago, didn’t mention Will Smith, this one does? Though it does state on the WT website he’s on a “full time training contract”
So not sure if he’s a contracted player or not?

Thanks Tigerm. Looks like no more signings for this year. Hopefully next year attention goes to our backs and we pick up a couple of quality players there. As far as I know Moses hasn't been signed for 2023 and beyond. Who knows what will happen.

I think we will certainly improve our ladder position, I believe quite a few of the players clocked off way to early, I would include management in that as well.

If we keep a reasonable core of our top tier players on the field for the season, I can see us getting to the promised land of the top 8.

The only worry for me is, the halves.

Does Doeuihi have a position in first grade?

Doesn't seem to have the speed or acceleration to be an outside back nor the playmaking skills for the halves.

Probably a little small to play lock.

Seems Connor Watson like in that he appears involved but actively makes horrible choices and kills the attack.

agree

I think in the right setup he can be a good standard 5/8. Ideally his skill set is probably best suited to centre, everytime he plays there he seems to score. Those tall lanky guys are always hard to tackle 1on1.

His defence is low key horrendous, has the worst first contact for his size I’ve seen.

I laughed when media reports had him shooting himself around at $900k. If any club is stupid enough to pay him that good luck to him.

He would need a dominant half and hooker to make a go of the six. Api fits the bill and maybe Brooks can finally show something.

As a centre can he hold his own against Manu or Holmes? For the dollars he wants he has to.

His defence is bad though, reminds me of Matt Burton who is a big body but bad tackler.

I think we're finding ourselves in the same position as South's with Doueihi. Where exactly do you fit him into your team? He doesn't have speed or ball playing ability & his one on one defence last year was horrendous. That 2nd game against Newcastle was just diabolical. For a bloke of his size he should be dominant. I've got a feeling Sheen's will be looking at moving Laurie to 5/8th, Doueihi to centre & Staines at 1.

It is stupid money, but he is a reasonable goal kicker, which we have lacked without him? The club has to find him a spot, I agree, the centre’s seem to be his go.
But that then makes us a half short, unless Laurie steps up?

MOSES’ MILLION-DOLLAR DILEMMA

Three clubs are reportedly in the race to sign Eels superstar Mitchell Moses — and his former club has tabled a huge contract offer.

According to Rothfield, the Tigers have reportedly tabled a deal worth upwards of $1.3 million-per-season in a bid to welcome the halfback back to Leichhardt.

The Bulldogs have also tabled a $1.2 million-dollar deal while the Eels offer sits just above the million-dollar mark.

“The Wests Tigers have gone very heavy with an offer of over $1.3 million per-year, probably towards $1.4 million,” Rothfield said on the Big Sports Breakfast.

“The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have gone in at $1.2 million and Parramatta have offered a little bit over $1 million per-year for their gun playmaker.”

Rothfield also revealed that Moses’ agent, Isaac Moses, is hoping the Eels have room to increase their offer and will sit down for a meeting in the coming days.

“I spoke to his manager Isaac Moses late last week, there’s all this talk that he’s on the verge of pulling the pin on Parramatta to accept one of these big money offers,” Rothfield said.

“If he goes I think it will be to Canterbury, but Isaac Moses did say he was going to have a meeting with Parramatta this week… he is going to see if they can possibly increase their offer slightly.

“He started in Parramatta juniors before he went to the Tigers all those years ago, there’s still hope for Eels fans.”

BATEMAN’S TIGERS DOUBTS

Tigers recruit John Bateman’s Super League coach has revealed just how close he was to remaining with Wigan for the 2023 season.

The 29-year-old English international signed a four-year deal with the merger club in late December, having last played in the NRL with the Raiders in 2020.

Bateman was considering remaining with Wigan for one more season before once again making the move to Australia, but Wigan coach Matt Peet said after a final meeting it was clear he was ready for an NRL return.

“He was only clear (that he wanted to leave) right at the end,” Peet said to Wigan Today.

“For a while he seemed to be caught in two minds, and it was only in my very last meeting with him that it was clear that his mind was made up. The club and Wests came to an agreement quickly.

“It would’ve been great if it had been dealt with quicker but with the World Cup it wasn’t meant to be.

“I was always aware that there was a chance it could go either way, and I got my head around that.”

Bateman joins Apisai Koroisau, David Klemmer and Isaiah Papali’i in making the move to Leichhardt to play under experienced coach Tim Sheens.

Regardless, as it stands, provided we don't have a major injury to a key player pre season, this is the best off season we have ever had.

Lets see who is just a passenger in the forwards this year and replace them with upmarket backs.

No rebuild takes one season.

My only regret will be that I won’t be able to secure a Sharon slob membership that I was looking forward to.

But regrettably for you Ned, the same info was passed on to others on this WT forum but only I had the willingness to share the rumour as a point of interest.

But don’t worry, if I get more news or verified rumours from the front from my different sources, from now on, I won’t be sharing them here on the open forum for you to carry on like a Sharon.

And when I called Bateman a number of weeks ago, that was simply a matter of homework looking at what he was saying from different uk sources, his personal circumstances as set out, when he was coming back to Australia and what Tim was up to. Nothing magic or secret there.

And there were at three others here who arrived at the same place, well in advance. Where they got their info from, I’d be interested. Better sourced than me easily.

All that said, Tim in particular can be fairly guarded about all kinds of things, especially since the ciraldo fiasco, but who knows if he wasn’t pressured into joining the conga line of our deranged and demented management that purport to run an NRL club.

We are far better served with moderate expectations despite a long overdue fresh pack.
I know people want to dance around the May pole but if it falls over and lands on you, the fun isn’t as good. It’s still wait and see for mine. Especially with the spin at full bore.

And it’s a shame Madge isn’t around to coach them. He finally gets a something approaching a competitive pack and the rug was pulled from under him and we came last. Well done Lee and co.

Devastated…..
