Season Now Gone?

wat?

Mathematically, Raiders need to drop one more game and we need to keep winning... we still have a better F/A.

Unless you're talking about realistically, in which case it was over a long time ago?

Broncos and Raiders can't win another game. Mathematically...

Raiders can win another game, so long as the margin isn't 8 above our winning margins (providing we win at all...).

However, they vs the Cowboys and Broncos, lol... unless Broncos get smashed next week (lol), we're going to need Canberra to lose to Cowboys.. and then beat Broncos

It's still possible, but like it's been for the last month or so, extremely unlikely.

Although the Cowboys are due for a win...

If we don't get there, we don't deserve it. We lost this in the first 1/3 of the season.

All we can do is keep winning - relying on other results is a copout.

I agree, JM. Week after we got embarrassed by the Raiders. Should have towelled up the Cowboys and got our season back on track straight away.

Agreed. I'd go back one further and say the season was over the moment we were down 52 - 0 to the Raiders. It was certainly finalised by losing to the worst team in the competition the next week.

Realistically, our season finished about a month or two ago, however, we're still not dead and buried just yet. It does look to be a mammoth task in front of us, but where there's life ...

At the moment, we're one of three teams on 24 points. There's two teams above us on 26 points. So, theoretically, we need to win both our games, and then hope the Rabbitohs, Eels, Raiders and Broncos all drop a game each in the next fortnight. The Rabbitohs play the Eels this week, while the Broncos finish the season against the Raiders next week.

So, it is impossible for the Rabbitohs, the Eels, the Raiders and the Broncos to ALL win their remaining two games.

We can still make it, it's just going to take a lot of planet-aligning to happen ...

The following needs to happen for us to make the finals:

We win both our remaining games...

Brisbane lose to the Warriors next week then beat the Raiders the week after...

Canberra beat Cowboys next week but then lose to Brisbane the week after...

Parramatt can win both of their remaining games but not by huge margins...

Souths only win one of their remaining two games...

So there are about 8 games over the next two weeks that will impact on us. The first two of those are on Friday night.

You must have an IQ of over 300... Good work btw.

Anyways I think whoever makes the 8 deserves it. We been playing some fantastic footy recently (bar some games) and it'd be hell of a ride for all of us if we made the finals:D

Those results of yours Adsy are quite possible! Well of coures it's unlikely they will all happen as planned, but its not like any of them are as unlikely as hoping the Sharks can beat the Storm in Melbourne or some other long shot...

Really? I was under the impression that if Broncos win one more game, that pretty much rounds off the 8. If the Knights win both of their last two games, they finish on 28. If Broncos or Raiders at least one of their last two games, they will be on at least 28.

Broncos F/A is 7. Raiders is -40. What you would want is for Broncos to lose both games (so regardless of your for and against, you will leapfrog them on premiership points), and for Raiders to lose next week. This is because the Raiders are actually the team to play the Broncos in Round 26.

If the Raiders lose next week, only beat Broncos by a few points in Round 26, that would mean:

8th - Raiders - 28 (F/A = approximately -30)
9th - Broncos - 26 (F/A = approximately 0)

...now if Knights win both of their last two matches, and South Sydney lose both of their last two matches, and Warriors beat Parramatta in Round 26, you should be safely in at 8th.

So results you need are:

Next week:

Cowboys beat Raiders
Warriors beat Brisbane
Parramatta beat Souths
Knights beat Dragons

Last round:

Warriors beat Parramatta
Dragons beat Souths
Raiders beat Broncos
Knights beat Storm

If all of those results go your way, then you will have:

8th - Knights 28
9th - Raiders 28
10th - Brisbane 26
11th - Parramatta 26
12th - Souths 24

If Brisbane win one of their next two games, Knights are gone regardless of whether you win both remaining games - F/A might be too much to catch up.

If Souths win both of their next two games, Knights are gone regardless of whether you win both remaining games - F/A might be too much to catch up.

If Raiders win one of their next two games, Knights are gone unless they can win both games and by good margins.

If the team that wins the Round 26 clash between the Broncos and Raiders also won the week before, Knights are gone.

Either way, you are hoping that:

- Knights win both remaining games
- Raiders, Broncos, Eels and Souths all don't win more than one of the remaining games (you are in luck in this instance, as Eels/Souths is next week and Raiders/Broncos in final round - in these clashes, you want the team with the worse F/A to win, i.e. Parramatta and Raiders, unless they won the previous week)

Tangled web, yes, but possible still. Stranger things have happened.

This is the third straight season we have done this now. Last two rounds to decide our place in the finals. Not surprisingly we have the draw from hell as per usual to get there with the additional migraine of for and against killing our chances pretty much. We only have to beat the two best defensive units in the NRL by huge margins.

Our realistic chance of making the finals finished the day Canberra put 50 on us. That result stuffed us mentally, causing us to lose in Townsville the next week and drive a spike through our season once and for all.

All we have been able to hope for since then is a good finish to the season and something to build on for next year. So far, with the re-emergence of Mullo as a top line playmaker, the gradual improvement of Kaufusi, and the resigning of Cross, we have done that.

It needs to continue for the next fortnight. It will not be easy, as we are playing the two best teams in the comp, but the way we are playing anything is possible.

I would take it back further - our realistic chances of making a dent evaporated when we persevered with Scotty for about 2 months too long..... and lost so many games we should have won - Storm, Panthers, Titans, Sharks, Tigers and Warriors.

We pick up even half of those, and we are safely in the 8.
