Going by throes comments, I can't see Mortimer in NRL. Our middle defence bashed teams last year. We can't go from few misses to a turnstile.

Mortimer cant tackle.

Flannno drew attention to his misses at redcliffe on Saturday night in the press.

Public shaming.

Unfortunately you just cant carry a liability in the NRL.

Targeted and trounced.
Flanno drew attention to Bird taking Barbas spot for the season, during trials last year. What his reasons were, will remain a mystery. Whats not a mystery though, is Bird was never going to take bens position & nor was Val. So as for public shaming,? id say there is much more to it.

True...nothing like putting a spotlight on a player to get a rise from him.

But defence wins games and our game is built on the physical contest.

The challenge is out there now for mortimer. Is he up for it?

Unfortunately this is a kid who rose thru the ranks in the halves and was probably hid in defence.

Now he finds himself in the ruck.

JAMES Segeyaro faces an uncertain future after Leeds Rhinos confirmed they’ve instructed lawyers in Australia to prepare for legal proceedings against the ex- Penrith hooker for walking out on the Super League giants.

Segeyaro is already staring at the prospect of spending the next two seasons out of the NRL with Rhinos CEO Gary Hetherington insisting his club won’t relax demands for a $400,000 transfer fee for his registration, which expires in November 2018.

The 26-year-old has been training with Cronulla and staying with close friend Wade Graham in the hope of earning a move to the NRL premiers who are looking for a replacement for Michael Ennis.

However, the Sharks are unwilling to sacrifice so much of their salary cap on a transfer fee, leaving Segeyaro in limbo unless another club is willing to fork out what Leeds want.

Graham said Segeyaro is in turmoil over the situation and hopes his close friend’s future can be resolved soon.
.
“He’s been a bit all over the place to be honest,” Graham told AAP from Cronulla’s camp in London ahead of their World Club Series clash with Wigan. “He just wants to be playing again. I’d love it to be with us. “He’s one of my best mates. I just want what’s right for him and I really hope something can be sorted.”

But a furious Hetherington said he has no sympathy for the 26-year-old after he made unflattering comments about his time at the Super League giants shortly after committing his future to the club.

“James reneged on his contract and he’s on the transfer list,” Hetherington told AAP.

“We’ve spoken to the NRL and they’ve made it clear that they won’t register any contract unless we’ve been paid the fee we want.

“We’ve employed lawyers in Australia to begin legal action for breach of contract.”

Hetherington defended his hard line stance and said he told Segeyaro and his manager Sam Ayoub what would happen when he met them in Sydney last November. “I was bitterly disappointed when they told me James wasn’t coming back and told them what the consequences would be,” he said.

“I am making the stand for integrity of the game and for fans who pay money to watch rugby league every week.

“This kind of thing has started to happen a lot and we need to make sure it stops. It’s not right.” Segeyaro agreed to a two-and-half year deal when he moved to Leeds from Penrith midway through last season that included a break clause at the end of the campaign.

“He had until September to tell us if he wanted to invoke that clause but he told us he was happy to stay and made statements of intent to that effect,” Hetherington said.

“Then he went home and all of a sudden he’s homesick and wanting to go back to the NRL.” Segeyaro is not being paid by Leeds and Hetherington made it clear there’s no way back for him at Headingley.

“He’s torn up his contract and that is that,” he said.

Not looking good for Seggy. His manager must've given him some terrible advice for him to end up stuck like this.

I hope Leeds get relegated this season.

And go broke.......

Can't really blame them. He signed a contract and then bailed, what did he think was going to happen? The guy from Leeds seems pretty pissed at him I don't know why but he mentions Seggy badmouthing his time at leeds after leaving I didn't hear about that though but when someone has you buy the balls and you want something out of them maybe try and suck up to them a bit and try not to anger them any more.

If you read what the guy from Leeds says in that article it doesn't sound like he did actually sign something, which is what someone on here had said before.

“He had until September to tell us if he wanted to invoke that clause but he told us he was happy to stay and made statements of intent to that effect,” Hetherington said.

So then it does get interesting.

Having said that I do believe Leeds have every right to be p!ssed at him, but hope they are as honourable when next they want to move a player on who has a contract and doesn't want to go.

He signed a two year contract extension with Leeds last season and had a get out clause he could use until September.

Can he go back and honour it?
Can he go back and play f**ked?

He should do that.

The leeds guy said they wouldn't have him back so no unfortunately for Seggy he cant do that. He is literally stuck hoping someone picks him up off the transfer list and pays the 400k. Meanwhile Leeds will begin legal proceedings against him.

Though it seems strange that they aren't paying him and are suing him for breach of contract and yet they still need the transfer fee paid? I guess once legal proceedings are done the transfer fee goes away.

Anyway like I said his manager has f**ked him here big time, he should've of been aware that if Leeds stuck to their guns that Seggy would be f**ked. Ayoub probably wouldn't have the power to wheel and deal with Leeds like he does with some NRL clubs where he likely represents a number of players at the club.

As others have posted, I question whether RFL has actually registered the contract. THere must be some basis for Seg's agents/lawyers saying there is no contract.

Looking at some selected quotes from Hetherington, it looks like some careful wording on his part

"We have a bona fide contract that is currently lodged with the RFL,” Hetherington told Press Association Sport.
...
We have had no request from Cronulla and the NRL have confirmed that while ever he is registered with the RFL he cannot be registered with them.”

“James Segeyaro remains on our register and on the (England governing body) RFL’s register as well and he may well remain for the next two years. “He will only be off that at the expiry of his contract but he remains on the transfer list and is available to anybody who makes an acceptable offer.” (on 26 Dec 2016)

I don't think RFL or NRL have come forward to say anything officially.
