Well done on completely missing the point of the entire thread. Run along now.
Not every post on this thread is to do with the topic. Semi wants to play for Australia but he's overhyped that's all I'm saying. Oh gee Wizz, that's relevant to this thread.

Geez rugby league supporters and press are narrow minded. Every time he plays well all the conversation is about how we can get semi to play for nsw and that he will be playing for Australia soon. This sport kills me.

Getting sick of trying to explain to the dumb merkins why he can't play for NSW.

Not unexpected though, the average NRL fan has no idea about anything other than the NRL.

Eels star Semi Radradra could play for NSW Blues and Kangaroos if rule changes are agreed
Phil Rothfield Sports Editor-at-Large

THE push is on for Parramatta Eels superstar Semi Radradra to play for both the NSW Blues and Australia’s Kangaroos this year, despite his Fijian heritage.

As the rules currently stand, the blockbusting winger can play for Australia because he has been in the country for three years but not NSW because he didn’t play rugby league in the state before the age of 13.

The qualification rules however don’t take into account rugby union converts like Radradra who played his first football in Australia in Parramatta’s Holden Cup team.

Four years ago the Origin qualification rules were overhauled by a committee involving Immortal Bob Fulton, super coach Wayne Bennett and then Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens.

Fulton revealed players like the Eels superstar who converted from union were never taken into consideration when the selection criteria was last revamped.

“It’s time we reassessed the rule,” Fulton said.

“If you have a rugby union convert from another country like Semi, it needs to be looked at.

“Especially now he has been here for three years, he’s an Australian resident, and he’s eligible to play for Australia.”

No other sport on the planet has such ludicrous stipulations around the selection criteria where a player can play for his country yet not his state.

Semi Radradra could be tearing it up for the Blues in Origin.
The game that has allowed:

# Greg Inglis, born and bred in Macksville, to play 27 games for QLD.

# Petero Civoniceva, a Fijian, to play 31 games for QLD.

# And Adrian Lam, born in Papua New Guinea, both play and captain the Maroons.

On current form, Radradra is clearly the best winger in the World and was named Dally M winger of the year last season.

He would have no problems forcing his way into the Australian or Blues teams on what he has produced over the last two years for Parramatta. Certainly ahead of the likes of Will Hopoate and Alex Johnston who were chosen for NSW and Australia last year.

Radradra was snatched out of rugby union sevens where he was representing Fiji by Parramatta Eels talent scouts in 2012.

On Friday night against the Bulldogs he set up a sensational try for Michael Jennings and scored two himself.

Petero may have been born in Fiji and had Fijian parents but the reality is he moved to Australia by the time he had turned one.

Same Lam had also moved to Australia by age 7. Petero also had never played for another nation when he was selected by the Maroons, whilst Lam was only allowed to play for Queensland because of the SL war.

The ARL needed a player of Lams quality for Queensland (or felt they did) plus considering the PNGRFL had signed with News, it was an incentive for him to stay with the ARL.

Completely different scenarios than Radradra.

It's frustrating that in our sport there are those who are constantly trying to flaunt the rules to deliver some sort of short term success often to the detriment of the sport overall.

Sunday Footy show with Johns and Fittler discussing how much talent there is in Fiji, and good they are. Proceed to then argue how unfair it is that Semi can't play for NSW. Guys, help, I can't deal.

If Fiji played more games, Semi, Hayne, the Sims brothers, Uate would all remain with Fiji. Whilst of course they are entitled to play for Australia, why would they bother with Fiji when they are paid less/rarely play.

If Radrada is allowed to play for Australia it will be a huge kick in the teeth for Fijian Rugby League seeing as he's already played for them.

Yep its a joke and hurts the fijian team inmmensley. Should not be allowed to happen and the sport desperately needs mature leadership from the dominant body the ARL rather cherry picking in form players from other countries that have already been capped. And then changing rules to dangle the origin carrot in front of players

I beleive a good start would be to seperate origin completely from international eligibility. Open participation in origin to players from fiji, samoa, england, nz etc..... while allowing them to represent their country at the same time. There should be two definitions of origin eligibility- the current rules for domestic born and bred players while another set for imports, converts and pacific/NZ heritage players.

This 'let everyone play origin' thing is bullshit. Radradra wants to play for Australia. He knows he currently can't play origin and yet still wants to play for Australia so that proves opening up origin will not get these players playing for their own countries. It's the ridiculous international rules that need to change and until that happens this shit will continue. Origin rules are irrelevant and the likes of Fiji will never pay players enough. So just change the f**king international eligibility rules.

if this is allowed to happen, they need to call the rule backflip the Semi clause. It means you could think of any reason at the end of the day. Sam burgess can say he played rugby so why cant he play for NSW?

I'm not saying Sam or his brothers wouldn't play for NSW if there was a rule change, but never in a million years would the Burgess brothers play for Australia as they are pround Englishmen. If Radrada plays for Australia i think we can safely say he's not a pround Fijian.

We cannot say anything of the sort.
How much pay per Test playing for Australia? How much for Fiji?

We don't know Semi. We don't know what pressures or commitments he has or feels he has.
The game, International and the National comps in GB & Aust, send to help / support / top up maybe the match payments for the non Big 3 Nations to reduce the need for players to make financial decisions. If the payments, number of Tests played etc were more equal and Semi still wanted to switch to Australia then that would be something else.

If Radradra does switch it will be because of money, despite him being born in Fiji and playing for Fiji.

I always thought Fulton was a tosser and now he's just confirmed it, again. SoO is a joke that only the Australians don't get. You will do anything to shoehorn a player into a blue or maroon jersey and don't care where he comes from as long as he gives you what you think is an advantage over the other state.
