That's like saying a club shouldn't have to pay out a contract because they've lost a player.

If Semi walks without the club agreeing or breaching the contract he should pay the remaining value.

What?? The contract is for Parra to pay Semi for his services, if he stops providing those services he doesn't get paid its pretty simple.

Only if that clause is in the contract. Only a f**king idiot would ever sign such a deal.

Only a f**king idiot club would sign a contract where a player can waltz off to another professional sport without compensation to the club.

Which probably suits the Eels perfectly, actually.

I think Adamkungl said Semi should PAY parra not Parra should pay semi

I know what he meant, its a silly thought unless there is a specific clause saying Semi has to pay some penalty amount if he breaches the contract, and there would be no such clause because no NRL player who was in demand like Semi would sign a contract with that clause in it.

Why would Semi pay Parra the remainder of the value of the contract owed to him? The contract is Parra paying Semi he doesn't owe them what he hasn't earned yet if he breaches it, he just doesn't get paid that money. Even if another team from Australia wanted to buy Semi out they wouldn't just pay the contract value they would negotiate. The reality is there is very little an NRL contract can do to stop Semi walking out to French rugby. They can take it to court but its questionable how effective that would be in this case.

True about Semi paying Parra. It's ridiculous. It's the same as an employee/employer agreement. You get paid for services. Stop those services, you don't get paid.

As far as the NRL stopping Semi playing in France, there's not much NSW courts could do. They could initiate proceedings, but all Semi has to do is move all his money and assets out of Australian accounts and he's sweet.

An agreement with the IRB/World Rugby would be our best bet, but they couldn't give a flying f**k about it. Honour means nothing to them.

LOL @ honour. What a load of crap.

Semi comes from an impoverished country. It is a way of life that most of us here have no way of truly understanding.

"The player is the breadwinner for their entire extended family, and it brings great pressure well outside of football.
Amid the firestorm about Radradra's international eligibility and subsequent selection for the Kangaroos, it was clear his primary reason for pledging allegiance to Australia and not Fiji were the match payments."

So we get a bloke from Fiji - when he has the opportunity to earn even more the reaction is to slap an injunction down. To keep a legal "foot on his head".

f**k that - good luck Semi whatever you do. Love to see you stay with the Eels, love to see you do well if you choose not do.

Don't let the bastards get you down.

See, this Union troll doesn't think a contract should be honoured.

Let him go - but make him and his sleaze bag manager pay.
It was said that he was having problems with living in Sydney - they would naturally go away if he moved to France.
He could probably come back to the NRL in a year or two if it doesn't work - I'm sure a team like Manly, Sydney or Brisbane would snap him up.

I agree with this. He has to make as much money as possible.
He'd be looking at the club and the League making money off his image while he is making pocket money.
Parra should try to get a contract up which lets him play in France then plays at Parra between June and October each year.

lol @ paying big money for a winger who's only assets are his physical attributes.

He can't even get Parra up on level terms with the top teams, why would you shell out big money for him ?

In 3-4 years when injuries start taking their toll and his acceleration will begin to deteriorate, his value will plummet.

Should do what union did and ban any player that leaves to play that shite game from ever having anything to do with RL again, worked for them! See how many leave if the gravy train at end of playing career dries up.

Semi needs a dream (or 3 depending on what works out) to follow like Hayne.

He brings more than his physical attributes, he is also a fine wing defender positionally and in terms of anticipation, he is great in the air in attack and defence. But arguably his most valuable asset is his offload.
