Rupeni Caucau is one of the greatest footy players I've seen. Go Radradra you'll do well in France.

f**k, that guy was class. What he did for the Blues in 2003 is the stuff of legend. Too bad he wasted his talent. Should have been better than Jonah

Those were the days...

Rupeni use to make Tuquri and Sailor look like bums along with All Black wingers. Was a once in a generation type athlete.

SEMI Radradra has been told he will get to play alongside his hero, Jarryd Hayne, if he extends his contract with Parramatta.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Parramatta are working on a blueprint which, costing upwards of $2 million a year, will unite Radradra and Hayne in the code’s most exciting backline combination.

Eels official Ian Schubert on Sunday confirmed the plan while also denying reports the Fijian, who jetted home over the weekend, was set to quit the code the same way Sonny Bill Williams did in 2008.
While Radradra does want an upgrade on his $250,000-a-year deal, Schubert said the cult Kangaroo had not informed them he was leaving for French rugby.

The veteran administrator added suggestions the club would allow Radradra to play league and rugby were also false.

“This won’t be anything like the SBW story,’’ Schubert said.
“There are a lot of Chinese whispers but nothing has come from Semi and nothing has come from his management.

“Just because you’re approached by someone doesn’t mean you’re going there.

“And right now, I’d say the only club who hasn’t offered Semi money would be the Boston Red Sox. They’d be the only ones who don’t want him.

“But Semi is contracted to Parramatta and he understands his obligations. He will be back in Australia this Sunday and back at training Tuesday week.”
Quizzed on suggestions Parramatta would let the winger play in Europe between August and April, Schubert said: “You can’t do that. The NRL don’t allow it and we wouldn’t embarrass them by asking.

“Currently, Semi is on a fair contract. Yes, he would like more money and, given the way he’s going at the moment, that’s only natural.

“Semi is one of the best wingers and one of the best athletes in the game.

“But he’s contracted to this club and we expect him back here Sunday.”

And to help ensure that, Schubert said Parramatta were working to link Radradra with two-time Dally M medallist Hayne — whom the 24-year-old credits for inspiring his unlikely NRL story.

Despite having been fined $1 million for salary-cap breaches, Schubert insisted the Eels would have the finances to fit both players in a backline that already includes New Zealand Test star Kieran Foran.
Presently, Hayne is pushing for an Olympic spot with Fiji in sevens rugby. Last week, the former San Francisco 49er hinted at continuing his sporting pursuits overseas — most likely in French or Japanese rugby.

Yet Schubert said recent talks between the club and its former star had been positive and some Eels insiders have tipped Hayne to return as early as next year.

Asked if he expected to see Hayne and Radradra in the same Eels backline, Schubert said: “Not tomorrow and not next week ... but yes, I do.’’

Semi. Hayne. Foran. Norman. Theres more than a third of the cap gone. Unless they plan on cheating again it wouldnt be a good move to have that much wasted in the backs. Jenko is on serious money too and would be the lowest paid.

Parramatta have been pretty dumb in recent years but they couldn’t be as stupid as to devote so much cap space to a f*cking winger lol.

Yep. So that he could get the injunction lifted and sign to play in France, SBW wound up buying out his contract with the Bulldogs (if memory serves).

Contracts do not force behaviour. All they do is outline terms. Player leaves , player does not meet terms, does not get paid. That's it.

A contract does not mean indentured servitude.

That's true. However, the employer can take out an injunction to stop said player taking up another professional sport whilst they are under contract. That is very clearly established employment law.

Forget the sport part. Do you think an Aus employer and court can get an injunction that would stop a person taking a job in France?

Even more so, how are you going to enforce an injunction obtained in Australia against someone in France?

Injunctions seem ridiculous in this situation.

There are a lot of opportunities to make the NRL attractive. Punitive measures will just mean player contracts will be worded differently and they also send a very negative message to everyone - players, fans, sponsors.

What sort of golden handcuffs exist in the NRL? For example, a post-playing annuity where the value increases substantially with longevity and rewards both staying in the game and staying with a club for example. It could include clauses like a bonus for playing an entire pro sporting career with the NRL. This would give players something to think about - short term gain vs long term payoff and it also takes the player-managers out of the equation. The scheme could exist on an as-is basis with no room for negotiation. Maybe the RLPA has already set up something like this - although I'd be surprised. It is something the RLPA/NRL could work on together.

Or they could come out and claim that player retention is not important and just let it go.

I can't believe anyone thinks you should be morally or legally able to just go play a different professional sport mid-contract.

If a club decides they don't want a player anymore, they pay out the contract. So it should be the other way.

Well it is. They don't get paid. Same deal.

That's like saying a club shouldn't have to pay out a contract because they've lost a player.

If Semi walks without the club agreeing or breaching the contract he should pay the remaining value.

Only if that clause is in the contract. Only a f**king idiot would ever sign such a deal.

I don't believe a club would always have to pay out the value if they choose to terminate either.

Again, these terms would be in the contract - guaranteed money, bonus, termination clauses etc.

These things are the very reason contracts exist. It is not so the full term is completed - that is an option of course - it is what happens when the terms aren't being met that is every bit as important. That is why they generally contain so many clauses.
