TODD Carney has often found himself in the headlines for the wrong reasons but the tattooed rugby league tyro may have been unfairly labelled a "love rat'' in an alleged love triangle.
The Rooster-turned-Shark, whose most-recent serious relationship was with Channel 7 weather girl Liz Cantor last year, has been accused of getting a little too close to "ex-flame'' Jana Hocking, who works as a publicity assistant at Nine.
A source close to Hocking claims Carney sent a series of texts at a similar time to the end of her relationship with Kieran Davidson - a hunk who once graced the silver screen on Nine's A Farmer Wants a Wife.
It's understood Davidson and Hocking, who met midway through last year, had dated until recently and our insider claims Davidson discovered texts from Carney.
It was Davidson who ended the relationship.
"Todd and Jana dated last year but Jana ended things with Todd when she decided to get serious about Kieren,'' said a source.
"(But) Kieran has found texts from Todd in Jana's phone which sparked an argument between the two boys.''
Yesterday Hocking confirmed her split with Davidson but said only: "Todd had nothing to do with it.''
But Davidson was far more willing to shed some light on the matter, saying he had no problem with Carney and that he was "Facebook friends'' with Cronulla's new signing.
"I know Jana may have seen Todd previously but that wasn't the problem,'' he told Confidential.
"Jana lives in Sydney and I live in Young, so it was distance more than anything.''
