never in doubt, interestingly Swepson MOM
he got his 10 wickets but bowls too flat for mine to make it to the next level
mind you watching Lyon bowl for I kept asking myself how is this guy our best spin bowler, he was not really troubling the batsmen a great deal, 2 wickets compared to Swepson's 10
100% agree with you, the trajectory is too flat to trouble top-class batsmen in test matches.
Unfortunately, that's the negative effect T20 cricket has had on promising, upcoming spin bowlers in longer forms of cricket over the past decade. This whole emphasis on the defensive mindset of trying to contain a batsmen rather taking their wicket is seen more and more these days.
IMO, Lyon is over-rated and has only caused major problems to batsmen on pitches that have had a lot of wear and tear, or offered something for spinners. He's mainly kept his position in the test team for the most part due to lack of competition/depth in Sheffield Shield over the past decade (not just Lyon, but several other underperforming players in the national side got an extended run by the selectors for the same reason).
