so basically you are saying Diablo that because some moron got a pathetic sentence for another crime, that means that it is okay to smuggle drugs?

Having heard the judges dismissing evidence her defence put forward on the basis that it came from her friends" is laughble.

Who knows if she's guilty when they dismiss some of her defence because of that.

Seems there was no point in even having a trial.

1. She was found guilty in a court of law.
2. She can appeal. But today she was found guilty in a court of law.
3. You may think its harsh. But she was found guilty in a court of law.
4. The may not like all of Indonesia for this. But she was found guilty in a court of law.
5. The Australian media are not a court of law.

I wonder what all the victims of the Bali bombers, and families of the dead think of this verdict, and the system over there, and their Court Of Law?

Thats got nothing to do with it.
Would you suggest all court cases in America be judged on the OJ Simpson case?

Prime Minister John Howard has called on Australians to accept whatever verdict is handed down to accused drug smuggler Schapelle Corby today.

As Chief Judge Linton Sirait began delivering the verdict in a Denpasar court this morning, Mr Howard said the entire nation "feels for this girl" but Australians had to "trust the Indonesian justice system".

"We have to respect the justice system of other countries," he said.

"I do ask the Australian people to accept and understand that when Australians go abroad they are subject to the justice system of the countries they visit.

"Just as when foreigners visit our country they are subject to our justice system.

She wasn't proven innocent, simple as that. And the Indonesian laws regarding drugs were known before she ever stepped foot in Bali. No one was raising a fuss before she was caught. Only reason people care is because it's become a bandwagon cause.

And why not travel to Bali? You realise the chances of something like that ever happening? Why not stop travelling in a car while you're at it.

This has been the most over sensationalised story ever by the media they have persisted with this ridiculous story for months on end Some people might be pissed off thats there agenda But without doubt the Australian public is going to be over the moon now they've finally finished this over sensationalised bull___ story it was an F grade story but the media turned it into the second biggest story of the year and it's a joke.

Ohh it's only marijuana what bull. It's only a law! If people dont like laws of countries etc dont go there!

Indeed.
If Corby was a grizzly old bloke with bad body odour, then the care factor would be next to zero.

Sure it was that you have to prove your innocence(similar to france) rather than get proven guilty over there, which is a f**ked system iof it is the case.
Maybe instead of targetting someone like that they should try n stop the drugs n their country. One of my mates said something on the lines of "Bringing drugs into bali is like taking steel to the steelworks," which is true as its just offeref on the streets. Which makes me ask the question - why would she do it? and Why target bringing it in when it is all over the island.

i feel quite sorry for the girl, but she must have know the indonesian laws.

nz had a mother and son jailed there for heroin, they were lucky not to be executed. he got the rattan (caned) and that nearly killed him.
they were released early thanks to the nz govt and came home. he,s currently locked up now in nz jail for similar offence.

i think we have to respect other countries laws whether we like them or not.

I feel sorry for Schappelle, but I think its been a bit of an overload by the media, and more to the point, more of a dramatisation by the Australian media highlighting only the pro Corby parts of the trial rather than anything else. Its hard to really know what is true, given the cheerleading parade by the media regardless of whatever the evidence was. She could have flown a B-52 into the Taj Mahal and the media would have stuck up for her, she was their perfect match, big honkers, decent body, active young person, lets all put on the sob story.

The part that bugs me though is the judge apparently has found guilty 500 odd people and acquitted 0. I heard that in Nova. Surely that can't be serious?

Despite all that, I do feel sorry for the lass, particularly if it was only marijuana. C'mon, who hasn't smoked the peace pipe?

No. The civil law system is not based on the presumption of guilt at all.

She was guilty under Indonesian law simply because the bag was hers. If she could have provided a reasonable doubt that the bag wasn't hers, then she would be free. Intention and knowledge of the presence of the drugs is irrelevant.
