PAUL Osborne cannot remember what groceries he bought. Nor the DVD that brought his Woolworths haul to $49. ``But I certainly didn't mean to walk out without paying,'' the Parramatta chief executive insists. ``It was simply one of those honest mistakes a thousand people like me have made.''
The Daily Telegraph can reveal an ``extremely embarrassed'' Osborne _ a former police officer and noted charity worker _ is fighting a $300 shoplifting infringement notice after failing to pay for groceries at Dural Woolworths on May 27.
According to a written submission to Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione asking that the matter be withdrawn, Osborne selected 11 items before proceding to a self-service checkout where each one was scanned and placed into a bag.
The combined cost was $49.18, with CCTV footage then showing him leaving without paying.
``And it was simply an honest mistake,'' Osborne continues.

``This is a store I visit three times every week. I simply went in to buy some dinner for my kids and got them a DVD too.
``A couple of weeks later some police came to my door because of shoplifting. Obviously I was embarrassed and went straight to the shop to pay up.''
