Should an Indigenous All-Star team be included in the next WC?

This thread does not even bear thinking about. I cannot believe anyone in their right mind would advocate having a racially-based side playing at the World Cup, or how clueless some Australians are about international sport.

Indigenous, Maori or whatever sides are great for exhibition games, touring sides or whatever, but they are not international teams and should under no circumstance participate in international competitions. Why can't people get this into their heads? I've now heard the Gallop interview and thankfully he seemed to just be patronising the interviewer, although you have to wonder why he was asked about this at all.

^ Correct.
I'd guess he was asked because the AllStars have just been named. ie Topical.

No. geniused idea.

Great to have it as an exhibition game and hopefully it becomes an annual and huge event.

But in a WORLD cup? No thank you.

If they want it - yes.
Not our decision.
If they feel a need for their own side they should have one.
Any white fella who feels they have a right to tell the indiginous population what to do and how to think is being pretty arrogant, and that is the sort of attitude that actually makes them want to assert their independence.
The World Cup is not based on race it is based on your affinity with an area with defined borders otherwise known as a country. The world is made up of Countries not races.
How would it be if they came up with a team called the Aussie White Fellas? It would be rightly shouted down as discriminatory and backward. Why is it any different with the Indigenous World Cup team idea? Does racial discrimination only go in one direction? If you are born in Australia or are an Australian by choice you should only be eligible for one team. BTW I believe that the exhibition match between the Indigenous All stars and NRL all stars is a great idea. It's an excellent way to promote the game.

Nope, the world cup is played buy nations (as opposed to sovereign countries, hence Wales and Scotland).

Australia should be it.

However in tradition to aboriginal culture, where they welcome new people to the land, every tournament in Australia, it would be great to have an aboriginal team play another team as the curtain raiser of the opening game. A focus on cultural people would be good, such as Maori, or Pacific Islander polynesians.

I feel the Aboriginal vs Maori game with Inglis welcomging the participating players was a very engaging moment for aboriginals in our game. I'd like to think it is something aboriginals can be proud of, and embrace repeating it in the future.

But their nation is Australia, and on a social aspect we should pursue including aboriginals into the prosperity and opportunity that exist in Australia, not creating or endorsing seperate and differentiated institutions.

Well beyond the scope of RL however.

NO! an indigenous team would be a bad look if it was included in a World Cup do you see other sports doing this? What they should do is try and find more teams who would play them like the nz maoris or touring sides e.g. England could play them as a warm up game for the four nations

i think its pretty obvious that a team based on race should not be entered in a world cup. there are plenty of other opportunities for an indigenous team to play, they should play the nz maori every year before the anzac test for starters. playing visiting tour teams would also be a good option.

Okay, how about this for a solution. The world cup is in 2013. in 2012 or whatever, we could have a Dally Messenger Invitational tournament featuring:

Qld, NSW, Aboriginals, New Zealond, Maoris, Great Britain & Ireland, Pacific Islands (and PNG), Rest of the World. It would make for one hell of a competition, it would easily make as much money and possibly more than a world cup, and because it isnt the hallowed "World Cup" we dont have any "Credibility" issues. in fact, we can even be extremely loose on the eligibility issue because this would be a representative celebration.

This means, the Islands team could and would Include Hayne, Civonoceva, Mason, Kite, Hunt etc. Definitely capable of winning. Rest of the world would and could include the likes of the Minichellos (italy), Peterson (Scotland), Saffy(South Africa), plenty more NRL and ESL players representative of lesser thought of nations, GB could add a host of NRL based players who are eligible for Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Qld and NSW already have massive support and playing talent. The aboriginals existence would ensure the tournament is taken seriously by the media. As said by Roopy, Journalists wouldnt dare criticise. NZ are the world champions, and the Maori brings interest and TV among the maori community. All in all, i think that this would be an absolute massive tournament, which would get massive TV ratings and would sell out virtually all games because every game would be competive. This would help fund the world cup proper and international game.

No. Having a representative team to play International sides is an excellent idea but not for the World Cup. That's for national sides not racial selections or state selections.

Where is the country of ' Indigenous ' on the globe ?

Their Indigenous mummies may have spat them out, but Australia made them the footballers they are.

australia made them the footballers they are. a bit of stretch there mate - i think plenty of them have natural talent to thank there not great coaches.
whether they got it playing it - or chasing kangaroos - I dont know but you cant always attribute they success or even any of it to australia coaching system. - in many case australia can make them worse players.

Could they even get 17 players..?

well what do you determine a caucasian kiwi to be. There would not be many NRL players who would be not part maori or pacific islander.

However on the otherside all the maori players and a large majority of the pacific island will have european hertitage and/or asian heritage (for islanders).

I'd like to see that, although with origin, indigenous v nrl all stars and the four nations we would end up selling the same product differently packaged. People might see it as an excercise in how many ways can we split Hayne, Slater and other supersars.

I'd love to see it, but I can't get enough of RL... I have my doubts in how moderate fans would react.

It was meant to be tongue in cheek, guys. To be honest, from my Australian point of view, the idea of a non-Polynesian Kiwi team would cause an uproar. I could be wrong but it's just the feeling I get and it's the same for an Indigenous team in the WC.

So my answer is obviously no.

Greatest white kiwi player of all time - SBW. I don't care what he said about being a role model for islanders...he's 50% white, maybe more.

Like MMM said, all Maori's are part white too. I mean look at guys like Bronson Harrison, Greg Eastwood & Lance Hohaia.

We probably do need to develop a few more purebred white guys like Mannering, Foran, Freeman & Brent Todd though. Pity most of them go and play yawnion.
