I have previously thought we should recruit a leader, but I struggled to think of many players who fit the bill. It dawned on me last night that Jake Turbo would fit the bill perfectly. I already think he will succeed Cherry as Manly's captain, as long as he stays at Manly. So a package deal of the Turbo brothers would solve our fullback problem and would give us leadership from a quality player. How much would they be worth to us. If DeBelin is acquitted and we sign the Turbo's, I would play Jake prop and he would be make captain in quick time.
It would be nice Frank but we’re dreaming if we’re thinking we could sign them.
It’s a million to one of happening.

I agree that the chances of us signing the Turbo brothers are very slim, but we may as well buy a lottery ticket and make a massive play for them. Manly already has something like 16% of their salary cap taken up by Cherry, no matter how much the salary cap rises. A couple of years ago it was reported that we made a massive play to sign the Turbo brothers. We have a track record of signing players we previously missed out on, so there is every chance we may enter the market for him.

A number of years ago, the club was linked with the Stewart brothers, Brett and Glen. For whatever reason, they scorned all approaches made by SGI officials. Of course, the parallels here (Brett/Tom...fullback) and (Glen/Jake...backrow) are identical. Given the Stewarts’ were local juniors who plied their trade with the Illawarra Steelers...and still said “no”, what makes you optimistic that Saints would have a snowflake’s chance in Hades of acquiring the Trbojevic’s at any time?

Excellent players though, and I would welcome both with open arms.

I am not optimistic about our chances of signing the Turbo brothers, but I would go all out for them and if I failed to get their signature, I would know that I had done everything I could have. You have to be in it to win it.

Send them email via their manager showing your expression of interest. You have done what you can. But that is as far as it goes except from their inbox to the delete folder

Yeah, if we sign turbo bros, add in Normon and hunt... well there is 40% of salary cap spent!
Don’t be silly..

James Normon is only on $100k..

He’s an ordinary footballer though..

Not sure he’d fit in with Frank’s grand plan..

He’s definitely a Millward type of signing though..

I have been doing some further thinking and we may have decent wingers and centres at our club already. Lomax is obviously one decent centre. Saab is one decent winger who will push for first grade by next year, I wouldn't mind seeing him given a run this year. Ravalawa has continued to show ability on the wing, but we may have a better centre on our hands. He should have already been given a run at centre, with Lafai and Lomax out. Marsters is the other one. He is playing centre in CC, but he could be a good winger. He has size. He has played a lot of fullback, so he should be decent under the high ball. He is another I would like to see given a run this year. Maybe they could be our answer and we could save a bit of cash until we have to upgrade their contracts. That would give us the funds to offer the Turbo brothers massive contracts. We also have Shiller coming to us next year, but he will only be 18. We may even be able to sign Fleger too. Here is another possible 2021 team

1 Tom Turbo
2 Saab
3 Lomax
4 Ravalawa (he has to wear the number 4)
5 Marsters
6 Norman
7 Hunt
13 DeBelin*
12 T Sims
11 Frizell
10 Jake Turbo
9 McInnes
8 Vaughan

14 Fleger
15 Lucky
16 K Sims
17 Ford
18 Kris
19 Sullivan

I was just thinking Schiller could be our fullback in 2021. There is probably more chance of that, than Tom Turbo being our fullback. We could have a team of great young outside backs and very experienced and very good halves and forwards. That sounds like a recipe for a premiership.

Ravalawa and Lomax are both right side players and Lafai still has one more year to run on his contract. So far I have not heard of Lafai moving on for 2020 however, Maybe the back five could be:
1. Lomax
2. Pearson
3. Ravalawa
4. Lafai or Masters
5. Saab

Now IF we can sign the Turbo brothers then:

1. T Turbo - expensive, Kangaroo and SOO quality Rep with size and speed - 1m
2. Saab - low cost, Junior Australian Rep with size and speed - 200k
3. Lomax - low cost, Junior Australian Rep with size and speed - 250k
4. Pearson - low cost, International player with size and speed - 200k
5. Ravalawa - low cost, International player with size and speed 200k

A 2.05m backline with size and speed and a big upgrade on what we have now. This backline has the potential to be very competitive in 2020.

So, what about the younger brother of Tom and Jake, Ben? Reportedly a better player than Tom. Do you leave him at Manly? If they come as a trio, where do you play Ben?

If he is that good and we can sign him, then go for it. We can work out where he plays later however, if he is even better than Tom, he will be sure to grab a spot.

Forget who we sign....Get in a decent coach and we improve instantly.
Getting rid of the dead wood and then signing good players such as the Turbo Brothers takes some effort and time. It involves major changes to our salary cap and considered decisions in relation to letting go some 'players with potential'. Yes it would be better to sack Mary and his coaching staff and hire a new head coach and coaching staff prior to making these decisions but from what I can see there is little apatite to get rid of Mary anytime soon.

I believe we should move on the Turbo brothers as soon as possible if we hold any chance of signing them.

Possm...do you ever stop and think that they probably want to stay at Manly who will move heaven and earth and afford to keep them and offer them their MV. Why would they even contemplate coming to the Dragons. Even with new coaching staff, recruitment officee, CEO and plenty of TPA's. It wont happen they will be at Manly until they retire or Manly no longer exist.
Makes you think though Manly would have to have 3 x $1 million players on their books where most clubs have just or close to 2.

I know Lomax and Rava both play on the right hand side, but I believe they could both play left centre. I know Lomax has played left centre before.

When I said that I would have done all that I could, that was if I was in position such as Millward, to sign the Turbo brothers.

Even they couldn’t remove Mary.
