I don't mind it.

Always thought there was a couple of Black Eyed Peas songs that would work too...especially with the changing demographics of the game.

It's not the worst choice they've had.

It upbeat, somewhat entertaining and i guess you could call it a pop classic if you are inclined to that kind of music.

Campaigns are designed to attract the masses, getting an aussie pub rock band just wont, sure I and a lot of males in the 30-54 demo would love it, unfortunately that isn't the masses.

This is much better than if they got someone like Nicki Minaj or the like. (God help me if that ever happens)

That makes sense
But
It still mystifies me why they keep getting f**kers from os who know nothing about the game though.

The song is almost 20 years old

May as we'll use the oils or grinspoon or powder finger
Or frenzal rhomb or you am I or rose tattoo or...oz crawl or the living end or the angels or screaming jets or the Hellmen or cosmic psychos or the hit men or normie faking Rowe or Russell Morris or
Moler or silver chair or me and my old f**king band from the 90's

At least we give a f**k about Australia .

I don't think you understand marketing.

It's a Very old song, performed by a singer who's target market is basically then 35ish, now 50ish women.
That is his chief appeal.
All those claiming to understand marketing might keep that in mind.
Maybe that's why some want Rose Tattoo, etc.
A tad less girly.

He's doing a 'Let Me Entertain You' world tour this year.

I think his demographic includes women younger than what you state, men too.

It's a calculated push to attract more female fans. Rugby League has negative connotations associated with it which could make some mothers forbid their sons to play the sport.

The NRL wants to attract people who aren't already fans of the game, they don't want to focus their marketing efforts on attracting old blokes who love Rose Tattoo, most of them would have already decided whether they like the sport or not.

He's doing a "Let me entertain you" tour ? . . . That'd be like Neil Young doing "Heart of gold" tour. In terms of relevance. Relevance to 2015, that is.

Of course there would be some men who find Robbie Williams a great performer.
Realistically, they would be a minority.
You might also then entertain the concept that there are women who like Rose Tattoo.
So do you alienate the rank and file that have supported and grown the game to what it is, in favour of a potential new audience ?.
Do you really think that the mums who stopped lil Johnny from playing RL will now pull him out of soccer just coz Robbie's song is flavour of the month ? Really ?
I must think differently, coz when I think of Robbie Williams the 3 things that come to mind are Mixfm, Air Supply, and an endless stream of milfs at the Westfields.

You obviously didn't go to his concerts in Australia around 2006. I went to two of them, there was a mix from very young kids to sixty year olds like me.

He has a very wide range of appeal. No dof dof rap that you might like.

World Super Bikes used 'Let Me Entertain You' for either their openings or closing credits or both for their live broadcasts sometime in the early 2000's.

They used it for quite a few years and the 2 commentaters were hilarious. I think one was Julian Ryder.

I am the market.
I don't rate it.
If they are gonna dig up some 18 yr old song they
May as we'll have used an iconic Aussie one.

FTR

I was fine with Jessica mauboy
She was great.
She showed up at games and sang even has a team she follows.
Not my style of music but at least I knew she was fair dinkum.
Not like this old fat soap dodger will be.

you're not the market. you already follow the game. you'll turn up even if they get this merkin to sing the song. i have no idea how popular williams is these days, but he's probably going to get more attention than frenzal rhomb

Maybe you're not supposed to enjoy the song. Maybe it's intended to lodge in your subconscious, delivering subliminal messages that the season will be entertaining.
How many shit songs have you not been able to get out of your head? (including "can't get you outa my head")
Robbie Williams is irrelevant. It's a well known song with a hook. This is commonly done in advertising, like it or not.
