As soon as SJ signed with the warriors last l said this would happen.
He simply was never going to put in. He doesnt run out thinking that. Its his DNA.

In professional sport once a player has signed for a rival club for the following season you cut that guy loose.
His head is not where you want it. It is on the other mob. He has made the decision and it is not to be with you. At the moment we have a rival player running around in our colours. We could get beaten by 60 next game and he will sleep like a baby.

Nicho is still putting in for the Storm even though he has signed with us, and they are the most professional sporting side in Australia in all codes.
It would be rather silly to cut Hynes loose from their team.
Reynolds is still putting in for Souths too, they sure as hell aren’t cutting him loose.

A couple of differences though - they’re playing for teams that can legitimately win the competition, and that have other players who could take their place if they didn’t put in.

Plus, both of those players are ultra committed to winning. I don’t see SJ, Chad, Woods or Duges as those ultimate competitors who’ll do anything to win.

Those teams have a attitude of responsibility amd accountability. Some might say, culture.
We have near enough is good enough because we won in 2016. My issues is not so much on finding a new whipping boy or punishing those off to other clubs.it is about setting new standards over time. This is how change happens. Hold individuals accountable, for the team and be consistent .Start now and it is already set before the new coach comes in. Be ruthless but fair and treat all evenly, the we all know where we stand.
Sign for a new club, turn in stinkers…see ya.
It’s no doubt a tough balance for the rusted ons who are happy with 7/8 th and the first week of the finals not for me.
Accountabilty, reliability , transparency, team first and of course…next man up (NRL phrase of the year…. pfft). In saying that I would always back the coach to back the players.
It’s just that Shaun, in my eyes, failed this test with a pea hearted effort, same week as signing a new contract whilst we have options in CT and trindall .Mm comes back, off to Reggies a for a stint. If it goes tits up then at least we know we have work to do on Trinidal and a standard has been set.
Finally, we did it to Chad.

I was answering snout and his statement that in professional sport you cut someone loose after they sign elsewhere. I was giving examples of players who wont be cut.

Yeah I have thought about that also, and I don’t agree with just putting men straight away.
I’m just attempting to link performance with accountability.
Nrls luckiest coach Choppers Flanno never made merkins responsible and look what happened after 2016.
f**k I’d be so sweet with Sj in first grade if he puts in. Just can’t stomach that shit for the “culture “ moving forward.
Be the change Hannah, draw the line

I am no Chad fan, but I wouldn't put him in that group. For all his faults Chad did put in, just that there was a huge chasms between he thought his abilities were and the reality.

Yeah I think a lot has to do with the lack of punch in our forwards. It’s very difficult for a half or a hooker to do much if you aren’t winning the forward battle.

and it’s not necessarily that any one our forwards are particularly outright bad, more that we don’t have the right mix. You can have a Woodsy, but you need his style next to someone that is going to bash people and bust down the door.

Correct. I think this is where BHU and Talakai have stood up before but they are both way off their games at the moment.

Forwards lacking punch. That is not the problem. Every bloody team in the NRL knows how to defend against a side that just lugs one forward up at a time while the rest of them stand flat footed and watching.
No questions ever asked for the defenders, no decisions to be made. They just move up on the one and only coming at them.

We just play shit football until it is too late and then start playing catch up during the last ten.

You can read us like a boring old book.

Aren’t you a fan of 1 out hitups?

I like how our forwards and fullback save their energy for the next run by waiting tilll the other is tackled

Nicho is different. He didnt want to leave. But he understands he cant be kept and has so much gratitude and respect for bellyache he is putting in.
He also knows they are winning the GF and wants to be part of that.

AR is the same as SJ in that hes been told he isnt wanted but different to SJ in that he believes theyre a real chance and wants to finish with a ring. He wont, but all the same.

Yep. My point about cutting a guy loose was too general. I meant when your season is done. And the player is being let go due to the fact that your season is done - meaning he is one of the many reasons.

The one out hit up is a fundamental of the game.

It’s all a loop. Good winger/fullback kick return, into good forward momentum, into good kick for metres.

I think the return of our real wingers has helped to get our sets off to a decent start. (and to finish off plays)

Our kickers are reasonably adequate. It was a bit of a downer when Chad was the lone kicker. The kicking could be better, but it’s okay.

I think at the moment the forwards are the weakest link in the field position battle. And it’s not just the attack.

I mean when our guys do a hit up, they have no support or potential support. They get hit, get dominated and get a slow play the ball.
Rugby league 101 is run with numbers at speed.

this exactly. The way we play is like an under 13b’s side, just learning international league rules. There’s zero support play, zero players pushing up around the ball. Kennedy has improved so much this year, but to actually go to the next level, he really needs to improve his support play and be around the ball more instead of racing over to the opposite side of the field for an out the back play on the next tackle. If we played a little bit of second phase around the middle with him in support, he’d absolutely kill it with his speed and evasiveness.
