Slater and Inglis - the best ever?

Halves - Sterling/Lewis was better than Lewis/Langer. In club footy, Langer/Walters was better than Lewis/Langer, who never made a finals together. Still put Sterling/Kenny above 'em all - Daley/Stuart was good too. Best ever - Johns/Fittler.

There are probably not many better club 1/4 combos as Melbourne's - Fairfax/Harris comes close too from memory.

Claiming Inglis is an immortal in waiting is a bit rich - Joey has to be immortalised first, and I suspect Heather will be next after him. Inglis is only one stupid decision away from being another SBW - and forgotten. He's in the same camp too, and has bonehead traits like SBW did. For Inglis to be spoken of in the future in the same terms as Gasnier, Sterling and Kenny his minders need to keep him trouble free for the rest of his career. Tough ask imho.
Who's claiming Inglis is an immortal in waiting?

Johns and Fittler are 2 of the best no doubt but they were an average combo at origin level.

Stuart/Daley dominated at club and rep level. They are still NSW most successful halves pairing.

Inglis is the player of his generation.

Certainity for club state and country since 19. Only 22.

Still yet to peak.

Billy is a fine player but only a certainity for club.

Would love to see Slater playing for say cronulla or easts this season. Inglis would be good in any side, wheras slater slots in very well behind a dominant side, but his errors generally get masked by how good his team is. In an average side he would not have near the same impact.

Markieboy...you certainly have not watched much league have you?
Slater as one of the best? He is as safe as Stevie Wonder taking the days takings to the bank. Sure, he is very quick, but he is shaky under the high ball, cant pass right to left (unless he is truly aiming for someone in row 3) and he is not safe and is only good when his team is up by 20 (mostly cause of Inglis)

Slater is a myth

Not as a fullback he wasnt. Didnt see Hunt throw crazy passes to opposition players, or over the sldieline, or drop bombs under pressure.
Slater has speed....thats it.

Did you watch cutie this year? hardly a safe player either. Good riddance to Gay FL.

You're saying Johns/Fittler was a club combo? :?

Nevertheless Daley/Staurt were a club combo who were also better than Johns/Fittler AND Sterling/Kenny at Origin level. (Arguably Langer/Lewis too)

Meninga > Inglis
Mullins AND Belcher > Slater

One question - have you watched every Storm game he's played in?. If you have, you would not have posted such rubbish.

Spot on, Slater has pace and evasive skill that is all. If I hear Ray Warren and the like say he is the best fullback ever againI will be buying a gun.

Thats funny, cause I remember him doing quite well against your team both times this year.

And you wouldn't watch many other Brisbane games I would imagine..

Anyhow, Slater > Hunt.

Which are both incredibly important for a modern day fullback.

Of course lets just ignore hes fantastic support play (hes ability to time his run onto kicks is second to none), great cover defense and goal line defense and the ability to read attacking kicks (mostly grubbers) better than any other fullback i have watched.

The only real criticism of Slater is that he makes the occasional mistake. That is fair enough but he makes a sh*tload of great plays that more than makes up for that.

I think the fact that his defense is completely overlooked is the most annoying thing. He gets compared to fullbacks like Stewart, Hayne and Hunt but none of them are even close to Slater when it comes to defense.

If a player makes a break against the storm you can be certain Slater will get them. On the goal line he is nearly always there to try and wrap up the ball and is far more successful at this than any other fullback bar maybe Hodgsen when he was still over here.
