Billy Slater was my pick.

He's been consistently brilliant for a long time, is the prototype of what every fullback should aspire to be. Hayne does some brilliant things, but he does them in 10 minutes spurts for 2 months of the year (I'm sure Parra fans are sick of hearing that, but it's the truth).

And just for the record, Slater's tackle on Watmough > Hayne's tackle on Stagg.

Its the Truth he does Brilliant things for 2 months of the year the other time he is playing above average....

sh*t if he aint pulling a rabbit out his ass you people are giving him crap for it...

And for the Record the Slater and Hayne tackles are complety different..

It amazes me that there are still so many league "fans" out there who still do nothing but sh*t on Slater. The guy is a brilliant athlete who also goes hard every week. He is a consummate rugby league player.
this

say what you will about his wankerry, on the field he is consistently brilliant

I think it is rather unfortunate that we can't simply celebrate two of the most talented and entertaining fullbacks to have played the game. Instead of offering an honest appraisal of the strengths and weaknesses of both Slater and Hayne it has become a sledgeathon as proponents of both sides engage in something similar to a labour/liberal election campaign.

It is fine to compare and contrast the two but for anyone to try and sell either Hayne or Slater as anything less then excellent then you are simply deluding yourselves.

Slater=The archetype supporting fullback with the most lethal grubber/chip chase most likely of all time. He was/is also the perfect foil for the team he plays in (over the cap or not).

Hayne=An amalgamation of the modern footballer, a player that can do anything but is still learning how to read the subtle nuances in the flow of the game and thus maximise his impact. Furthermore he is carrying a team lacking a recognised 6, 7 or 9.

Slater has earned his plaudits over the years while Hayne's star is still rising (though Slater is in no way over the hill). I am an Eels supporter so I favour Hayne but I refuse to begrudge Slater of his talent or personal achievements.

I never said anything about future games ...i was talking about the last couple of weeks...V cows,V Dogs,V Panthers....two BOTTOM of the table teams,& one team in top four ,who seems to only get over the line through kicks.

Wait till they play some of the top teams & see how the myth goes.

There's no myth. He was the best attacking player in SOO for the blues 2 yrs in a row and smashed every opposition in last years semis. He will do it again. Dally M winner for a reason mate. By my cals,he is within 3-4 pts this year too.

Simple facts are unless he scores or sets up 2-3 tries a week, idiots will come on here writing about some bullsh*t myth. Go watch the Manly and Melbourne games earlier this year. Who in the comp can single handedly tear teams apart after being down by 20 pts. He did it to Manly and he did it to Penrith. Both top 4 teams!

You're Just JEALOUS!

This is the easiest question I've ever had to answer. It was so easy to answer it almost made me laugh.

The Eels aren't going to make the 8 and then Mr Hayne, who's not been on planet earth since late September 2009, will return to being criticised by many. Just where has he been for nearly 10 months again?

And if you want to judge Slater's form do it on the 3 games plus the 7 (including the Warriors hammering) NRL games that actually mattered.

I also know that as mad as Craig Bellamy might have been as NSW coach he WOULD NEVER have picked Kurt Gidley ahead of Slater in any team at fullback.

A big well done to the Sydney media and Channel Hayne on hyping up the only half-decent player from NSW currently.

Well..?? dont leave us all in suspense, Jose!! who's your pick?

If you think Hayne has been on 'planet earth' since late September then you definitely do not watch parras games.

See that's the thing with the ' Hayne only rocks up for 7 weeks' argument that nearly everyone has. It is a crap argument and completely untrue. Hayne does alot for parra but somehow it is only recognised when he does the flashy things. Im sure all our lives would be easier if you all stopped expecting miracles from him every single game and rather appreciated that he does alot for a team with a weak 6/7/9. Imagine the things he'd be capable of if he had the star players that Slater had around him?

Anyway is anyone else sick to death of all the Hayne bashing threads started? Im sure EVERYONE would love to have him in their team and would completely flip on their current opinion if he played for them.

The thing i hate about hayne is when he scored his tries the other night he thought he was maradona scoring the world cup winner, he scored two tries, woopty do, i've seen other players score better individual tries, and you know what they do? they go back and celebrate with thier team, they don't run around the stadium acting like they've won the world cup, he reads into his own hype too much, show a bit of Humility

I wonder if Manly fans think that Hayne has been asleep since September last year?

He single handedly tore Manly a new one in Round 2 (after Parra were 20-nil down) and again in round 10. Had a blinder against Melbourne too.

Gee some of you lot have either short memories or haven't watched many Parra games.

Slater for now, but Hayne in a year or two. Hes just
bigger and stronger. Slater is made to look amazing coz
he always has smith thurston or cronk next to him. Hayne plays
with much weaker attacking players. Haynes got
better ball skills to. It really is tight between these to. The people that
dont like hayne are jealous morons with small
dicks

Who cares? The great part of the game is its characters. I guess next you will say Greg Inglis pointing to the crowd before he scores is too much as well? Maybe Ben Barba should stop his X thing he does as well.

Hayne knows how much his own form relies on the rest of the team doing their job.
