Slater or Hayne

I know Hayne is a great player and he has been amazing this season but I would still take Billy Slater over Hayne in my squad any day of the week, Hayne is very much hot and cold during his career, also very injury prone.I was also disappointed that he did not back up for eels because he was feeling jaded after origin,Slater would never do that, he plays for storm with one leg over the years sometimes.

I still also think Slater is the more complete player and slater will be remembered as the best FB to ever play the game so far.
He has been very consistent his entire career as well.

Who would you guys pick between them two in your squad?

Crikey, not again . . . Slater has as much chance of being a better centre than Hayne as Hayne has of not being made a dunce against Slater at fullback

I wouldn't say slater is a more complete player, as in terms of footballing ability Hayne is one of the most complete footballers going around. However one of these players is talked as being the best fullback of all time and one is talked about as having the potential to be the best fullback. Hayne is one of my favourite players to watch yet has nowhere near the consistency needed to challenge slater in terms of having the best career.

I would have hayne in my team if I wanted to draw crowds and get kids involved etc, slater if I wanted to win premierships.

If Hayne played his entire career at the Storm and Slater at the Eels, these comparisons would never come up.

Slater is the most consistently brilliant player I've ever seen play the game, but Hayne's ability and skill level are much higher. Hayne's only problem is an inability to consistently show off his talents while surrounded by some of the greatest plodders to ever lace a boot.

The true test is to see how each player goes when thrown into the rep arena, when they both get a fair chance to shine. And in that arena Hayne obliterates Slater. In tests is not even a contest, while even in origin with Slater playing in the clear superior side Hayne has still managed to be best on field in most games he plays.

Yep, think that's a good summary

Hayne. Slater is getting older and it's starting to show. It was evident in origin. Hayne will be fresh for a few more years.

If I was a top-level coach and I backed myself to get the best out of both, at the peak of their powers, I'd choose Hayne. It's harder to analyse the two with one having played under a great coach all his career and the other having put up with Sticky, Kearney etc.

Both are brilliant attackers, with magic ball skills. Slater is slightly better in terms of his positioning but Hayne defensively is unreal. The amount of freakish defensive efforts he's managed to cut down attackers seemingly certain to sure is lengthy.

Hayne is also able to fill in at centre, wing, five eighth where Slater wouldn't be as effective.

And the example of him missing the Warriors game can't be used against him, that was Brad Arthur's edict.

I don't believe Slater could have carried the Eels in 09 and again this year like Hayne has, and even NSW to a point as well.

If we aren't considering age, and we are just picking a player at the peak of their powers, then without a doubt it is Hayne.
If we are picking on current form, then it is Hayne.
If we are picking on 'best rep form', then it is Hayne.
If we are picking someone to carry a team by themselves, then it is Hayne.

If we are picking a player who will never get in trouble with the judiciary, no matter how what he does, then it's Slater.

Peak of their powers is easily Hayne. Slater is more consistenlty near his peak over their careers but pure peak for peak is Hayne.

The argument I'd make is that consistency needs to be included in "peak of their powers". A single game can't be a peak IMO, needs to be more and consistency is a massive part of it.
