SMH: A pair of losses, but Kearney is coach for long haul, say Eels

If you expect spin then that is all you will ever receive.

Didn't say I expect it, but generally that's all you'll get.

Interesting that you haven’t found Roy very approachable, as I have said I have known him for a while so it isn't a big issue, indeed when we meet on away games, it will normally be Roy who spots me first and say's hello.

Maybe it's because I don't know him very well. But generally, I'd rather suss out another board member who know's me.

You thought the old board was not approachable, that is your opinion, but as I have said on a number of occasions I was able to approach them and speak with them all at numerous occasions both back at the club, out the back after a game, at Fan Days and other events. They weren’t exactly hiding mate in my opinion.
Having said that the current board as just as approachable, but again one on one, they can only do so much.

Ovo was the only one I found approachable. From my perspective, anyway.

You'd hate to be a director. Imagine having to be asked questions by 10,000 members and countless fans throughout the season. If there are a dozen home games a year then my mathematics tells me that's a f**king lot of questions per night.

Well that's the difference between you and I. I think our fans, our Season ticket Holders are very keen to know. They invest in the club and follow its fortunes regardless, I am quite sure they want to know what the people in charge are feeling and what they are thinking about the situation and unfortunately having read the article it refers to some things they are impressed about but it does not appear to be tangible. So let the board and the coach explain that.

Maybe it would put them in the spot light, or maybe it would put to ease some people. Who knows, but we can only try it as a way of starting a conversation with our fans for all matters concerning the club.

Come on Mark, let's be honest. When we are winning we get close to full houses to Parra Stadium and channel 9 shows us nearly every weekend. When we aren't, we're lucky to get a half full ground and we disappear from FTA. For the most part it's the same for all clubs. More communication from the club might make a small group happy, but it simply isn't a panacea, compared to winning on the football field.

Yes I suppose the media is only factual when they agree with your point of view on things.

No, if they always agreed exactly with me on things then you could bet they weren't being factual either. It should be somewhere in between, but rarely is because sadly that's 'boring' and doesn't sell newspapers.

That's the thing mate. Most fans don't give a shit. They jusy want to see us win. Therefore most fans wouldn't bother them.
Most of the time I'm talking to them, I'm talking footy, not putting them through an ICAC investigation.

I don't know about other clubs, but I think it's great that we can walk up to nearly all board members anytime and fire away questions. That's where I want to get my info from, not some half arsed propaganda video.

And a propaganda video is exactly what a lot of people would be calling it if we currently got one. You can't win, unless you're winning.

Well it's a good thing no one forces them to do it then.

good point suity,
we may only get the usual "so and so has the full support of the board" type comments.

Guaranteed. Look a forum Q&A session (or if you can get somebody one on one) is a good idea because you can put your own questions directly to the CEO or whoever and hear your answer (and follow it up) without it being filtered through the media or a spin doctor. I'd still like to see that happen.

Propaganda videos really are just that.

Yeah well then I guess Kearney and the team need to get Winning, as I have said a few thousand times before, to head all this off at the pass.

Ovo was the only one that sought fans out and went to speak with them. He did it when we were all part of the Parraletics on the Northern Hill.

Those were the days.

Yep, whether you agreed or disagreed with what he did as a board member there's no question he's the been the most down to earth with us fans

the only thing is if we aren't winning everybody wants to know why not and what's being done about it.

I'm not so sure the vast majority really do. From what I've seen most people just jump to conclusions and blame the coach and a few high profile players. In some cases that may well be correct, but not always.

For sure. But the board members are just football fans like us. Doesn't mean they know any more about footy, or can put their finger on the problems, except for some more astute knowledge about the inside runnings of the club.
That's why I voted this mob in and the last mob out. If, in 3-5 years time, we are once again a basket case, I'll be looking to do the same.
At the moment though, I'm prepared to be patient. I'm prepared to give not only the board time to turn things around, but the coaching staff.

I'm certainly not going to go off half cocked after every loss and carry on like a pork chop like many do around here.

f**ken what?!?

Did Confuscious say that? What a load of shit. If you expect spin then you will be more likely to perceive things as spin (confirmation bias), but you will still get whatever it was you were going to get anyway.

All public institutions distribute 'spin' to potential audiences - it's the best way to generate public interest/support. That's why there is a marketing/PR industry.

For the club to be open and honest with the public about every little thing would be organisational suicide. There's nothing professional about excessive disclosure - a lot of what the club chooses to keep guarded about is essential for remaining competitive in the various marketplaces it operates in.

STFU Pou Pou.

I want a 3 minute video from the Board every second week detailing our immediate financial situation at the time, as well as every minute that is discussed at every Board meeting. Beyond that, I want to know what every single board member thinks about Kearney and his support staff. I want constant ratings out of 10 on a fortnightly basis.
I also want to know if what beers they are planning on having on tap next year in the Firehouse, and their reasons why they have changed, if necessary.
I also want them to explain to me why the dry paper hand towel dispenser is often empty in the men's toilets. Don't care about the female's tbh. They can just do a hand stand in front of the hand dryer.

That should fill the first 3 minute video from the board to my liking.
I'll have a further list of questions before our next home game in 7 days.
